How to Complete Tabbias, the Trusting Traveler in Ni No Kuni 2

As Evan seeks to increase the influence of his new kingdom, Evermore, he’ll have to recruit more citizens to join his cause. Each citizen recruited has their own skill set that can be put to good use at one of the many different facilities around the town. Of the many side-quests in Ni No Kuni 2, recruiting a new citizen is often the reward. Tabbias is one such new recruit, and the side-quest to recruit him has Evan investigate a dodgy merchant that has ripped Tabbias off, selling his goods from a shady cave near the Sky Pirates base in x Canyon. But while finding the merchant is easy enough, it’s not so easy to work out how to trigger the quest once you do so.

The quest asks you to talk to the merchant in the cave, but you might have noticed that once you do so, he simply offers you the opportunity to purchase various goods, as any merchant would. To trigger the rest of the quest, you’ll need to click the option to buy an item. Now, look at his wares – see the Knapsack? You’ll need to purchase that item from the merchant. Once you do so, Evan and his pals will quickly realize that what’s inside is Tabbias’ gear, and they’ll call out the merchant on his thievery. A battle then ensues, in which you’ll have to take out the merchant’s motley crew of bandits.
