Just as the case usually is, the new Need for Speed game, Heat, is all about improving you car so that you can do better in races and take on the street racing gangs that control the city. So that you can add new parts to go faster, here’s everything you need to know about how to upgrade cars in Need for Speed Heat.

You can upgrade your cars in a variety of categories, to increase their overall car score and increase things like their top speed, acceleration, or handling.

How to Upgrade Cars in Need for Speed Heat

To do so, the first place you can head is to the Garage. This is the place at which you’ll start when you first load up the game, and it’s the larger house icon on the game’s map.

From here, go to the My Ride tab, select the Performance Tile, and choose between the selection of categories for what you can upgrade. They’re broken down into four sets, which are: Engine, Chassis, Drivetrain, Auxiliary.

You won’t have access to all the upgrades, with most of them requiring a certain REP level before you can purchase them. They all cost a certain amount of cash too.

Use just need to press X if you’re on PS4 (or A if you’re on Xbox One) and confirm the purchase to add it to your car. From this menu, you can also press triangle/Y to change your whole engine, of which there are a few options.

From the main Garage screen, you can also change how your vehicle looks with paint jobs and other things.

If you can’t make it to the main Garage to upgrade cars, you can also head to Safe Houses, which are shown by house icons on the map, or the Part Shop, where you can purchase and add upgrade to your car. At the latter, you can only see the parts, and nothing else that’s possible at the garage.

You can also fast travel to all of them. With them highlighted on the map, press triangle if you’re on PS4 (Y on Xbox One).

  1. Head to your Garage, any Safe House, or the Part Shop.

  2. Go to My Ride, and Performance, then choose the part you want to upgrade.

  3. Purchase them with cash and add them to your car.
