It’s that time of the year again. Call of Duty is back with its annual entry. This time around, Infinity Ward is taking the reins with the release of Modern Warfare, not to be confused with Modern Warfare Remastered, which was a remaster of a much older game in the series. Anyway, here’s how to mute players in Modern Warfare.

How to Mute Players in Modern Warfare

We’ve all been there at some point or another. Whether it’s a teammate being too toxic over voice chat, or if you’ve got someone who’s being too loud and eating chips into the mic, you’ve probably found yourself in a position where you just want to mute someone on your team.

Thankfully, you can do that.

To mute players in Modern Warfare, you can do so from the matchmaking lobby right before the match even begins. Use the d-pad to highlight the name of the player you want to mute, then press the X button (or A button if you’re on Xbox One) to bring up a small menu. Then, choose the Toggle Mute option to mute them.

When you’re in-game, you can also bring up the team roster by pressing the touch pad on PS4 (or pressing the View button on Xbox One). Similar to the previous method, use the d-pad to highlight the name of the player you want to mute, then just press the X or A button to mute them quickly.

If you ever want to unmute them, simply tap the X or A button with their names highlighted.

Muting the Entire Lobby

If there’s just too much noise in general for you in a game and you want complete silence from just about everyone else that’s in the lobby, there’s a way to mute everyone at once. Press R3 (by pressing in the right analog stick) on both PS4 and Xbox One and you’ll toggle the mute option for all players at once.

Time needed: 1 minute

To sum up, here’s how to mute players in Modern Warfare:

  1. From the matchmaking lobby, use the d-pad to select a player, press X/A to bring up a menu, then select the Mute option.

  2. While in-game, press the touch pad or View button to bring up the team roster, select a player, then press X/A to mute them.

  3. Press R3 on PS4 and Xbox One to mute all players instantly from the lobby screen. Press it again to unmute all players.
