Minecraft Splash Potion of Weakness Brewing Steps and Curing Methods

Weaken your foes.

To make a Splash Potion of Weakness in Minecraft, brew a regular Potion of Weakness by placing a Fermented Spider Eye and a standard Water Bottle into a Brewing Stand powered by Blaze Powder, then add Gunpowder to convert it into a throwable splash variant. This process completely bypasses the need for Nether Wart, allowing players to quickly acquire the potion to weaken enemies or cure zombie villagers.

The most common mistake when brewing a Splash Potion of Weakness is starting with an Awkward Potion. Unlike almost every other potion in the game, the Potion of Weakness must be brewed directly into a standard Water Bottle base. Adding a Fermented Spider Eye to an Awkward Potion results in a useless concoction, wasting valuable resources and fuel.

Fast Extraction Pathways and Overworld Alternatives

Exploring Snowy Plains, Snowy Taiga, and Snowy Slopes biomes can lead players to naturally generating igloos. Inside, break the third white carpet block straight ahead from the doorway entrance to reveal a hidden oak trapdoor. Open this trapdoor and descend the stone-brick ladder shaft to coordinate depth levels where a secret basement research lab awaits. This basement contains a fully functional Brewing Stand holding exactly one pre-brewed Splash Potion of Weakness. Survival experts recommend looting this structure early, as the adjacent chest is guaranteed to contain a Golden Apple, providing an immediate cure kit for the trapped Zombie Villager.

If players want to avoid Nether exploration entirely, Witches can be manipulated into throwing Splash Potions of Weakness. Construct a capture trap using a wooden boat to lock a Witch and the target Zombie Villager in adjacent positions. Stand within a three-block radius of the Witch while maintaining a personal health pool above eight hearts. While standing directly next to the Zombie Villager, wait for the Witch’s 25% chance every three seconds to throw a Splash Potion of Weakness offensively, which will instantly splash and apply the weakness effect to both entities.

Alternatively, players can craft a Fletching Table using four wooden planks of any wood type and two flints. Place the table near an unemployed villager to assign them the Fletcher job. Conduct trades to raise the Fletcher’s career level to Master. Master Fletchers have a high probability (Java Edition: 2/3 chance; Bedrock Edition: 1/2 chance) of selling five Tipped Arrows of Weakness for two Emeralds and five normal arrows. Firing these from an unenchanted bow applies the weakness effect instantly.

To find a Nether Fortress rapidly without cheats, players can leverage the Shift + F3 Pie Chart in Java Edition to scan for Blaze Spawner entities. If playing without technical UI screens, navigate the Nether coordinate grid along the X-axis while maintaining a Z-coordinate of exactly Z = 230. If a fortress fails to generate within 600 blocks, shift the Z-coordinate by increments of 200 (such as Z = 430 or Z = 630) and retrace along the X-axis to cover the maximum structural generation zone efficiently.

How to Brew a Splash Potion of Weakness

To brew the potion, gather these exact raw materials: one Glass Bottle filled with water, one Spider Eye, one Sugar, one Brown Mushroom, one Blaze Powder, and one Gunpowder.

Craft the Fermented Spider Eye

Open the 3×3 Crafting Table interface. Place one Spider Eye in the center slot, one Sugar in the left-center slot, and one Brown Mushroom in the bottom-center slot. Drag the completed Fermented Spider Eye into the inventory.

Fuel and Prep the Brewing Stand

Place the Brewing Stand on a solid block and open its interface. Insert one Blaze Powder into the top-left fuel slot to activate the heating element and charge the alchemical meter.

Brew the Base Potion of Weakness

Place up to three Water Bottles in the bottom three slots of the Brewing Stand interface. Place the Fermented Spider Eye into the top ingredient slot. Wait 20 seconds for the brewing cycle to finish, turning the Water Bottles into drinkable Potions of Weakness.

Add Redstone to Extend the Duration

Leave the completed Potions of Weakness in the bottom three slots of the stand. Place one Redstone Dust into the top ingredient slot and wait 20 seconds. This raises the active duration to four minutes on Java Edition or three minutes on Bedrock Edition.

Brew Gunpowder for the Splash Conversion

Leave the extended potions in the bottom slots. Place one Gunpowder into the top ingredient slot. Once the final brewing cycle completes, drag the throwable Splash Potions of Weakness into the inventory.

Step-by-Step Zombie Villager Curing Process

First, trap the Zombie Villager in a secured, shaded environment to prevent it from despawning, attacking, or burning under direct sunlight. Locking the zombie inside a wooden boat is an effective way to keep it completely stationary.

Second, select the Splash Potion of Weakness from the hotbar and throw it directly at the Zombie Villager’s hitbox. Gray particle swirls will begin emanating from the entity, confirming that the weakness status effect is active.

Third, immediately interact with the weakened Zombie Villager while holding a standard Golden Apple (crafted by surrounding a normal apple with eight gold nuggets in a crafting grid) in the main hand.

Fourth, listen for a loud, distinct sizzling sound, and watch for the swirling particle effects to turn red, which confirms that the conversion process has started. The transformation takes between three and five minutes. To accelerate this rate by approximately 4.2%, place up to 14 iron bars or bed halves within a 9x9x9 block grid centered on the curing entity. Once the villager transforms, players can apply Name Tags in Minecraft to prevent the cured vendor from ever despawning.
