Paying attention to the loyalty system in Mass Effect 2 can be the difference between life and death for several characters, including Shepard. You’ll want as many loyal crewmates as possible by the end of the game, so here’s how to get and keep Kasumi’s loyalty in Mass Effect 2.
How to Get Kasumi Loyal in Mass Effect 2 – Loyalty Guide
First of all, Kasumi needs to be recruited before her loyalty starts to matter. Kasumi was originally a DLC character, but Mass Effect Legendary Edition includes all extra content. Kasumi can be recruited by visiting the Citadel and interacting with a hacked advertising hologram with Kasumi’s face on it. You’ll have access to Kasumi’s loyalty mission as soon as you add her to your team.
Her loyalty mission, Kasumi: Stealing Memory, is an extremely tough one, especially if you’re still early in the game. Even though you can attempt to complete it early on, it’s probably best to save it for later in the game since Kasumi is the only squadmate who can go with you and it contains some tough firefights.
Kasumi Loyalty Mission
This mission is one big heist to get the graybox of her partner, Keiji Okuda, which perfectly falls in line with Kasumi’s status as a master thief. The first portion of this mission has you attending a party. Kasumi won’t be let in at the door, but she’ll simply cloak and walk in anyway. There’s a vault that you’ll need to gain access to in order to advance. To do so, you’ll need to do the following:
- Get Donovan Hock’s DNA
- Record a voice sample
- Cut the power to the barrier
Hock’s DNA is located in his room. Use either deception or brute force to get inside. For the deceptive option, you can convince a guard named Samuels to let you in by taking out the two guards in the Security Room, then examining the datapad inside. Kasumi can then use Security Chief Roe’s voice to fool Samuels when speaking to him again. The forceful route involves breaking into Hock’s room from the balcony, but there’s a fight waiting with this option.
Recording a voice sample is much simpler. Just go talk to Hock and use Paragon or Renegade dialogue options to have him say what you need him to say as Kasumi records everything. To shut off the power, look for power coil panels in the floor just outside the vault. Kasumi will help you find them by altering your Omni-tool.
This is where things get rough. The hard part of gaining Kasumi’s loyalty is surviving these upcoming firefights. After entering the vault, Shepard and Kasumi will get caught. Hock sends out Chief Roe along with plenty of other defenses to go after you. Don’t stay where you are at the start of the fight. Find some better cover because new enemies will start spawning and entering the vault as the fight goes on.
After winning the first fight, go to the next room and pick up Medi-gel or swap weapons at the weapons locker on the way there if necessary. In this room, more soldiers and mechs are waiting for you. Though, if you have Tactical Cloak, this will be much easier. You can cloak, then quickly move to activate the cannon on the large vehicle behind the enemies. Using the cannon should kill almost every single enemy in the room.
Finally, you’ll come to a landing platform after all of that shooting. Hock will show up in a large gunship as you’re attacked by various enemies yet again. Don’t bother trying to take out the gunship until after Kasumi disables its shields in a cutscene. After taking out the gunship along with several waves of enemies on the ground, Kasumi’s loyalty can be earned after telling her what to do with the graybox you came to find. No matter what you decide, she will be loyal upon completing the mission.
That’s everything you need to know about how to get and keep Kasumi’s loyalty in Mass Effect 2. If you’re looking for more loyalty guides, check out our guide wiki for Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
