FFXIV Stormblood: Where to Start & Unlock Red Mage Job Quest

This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

Have you picked up FFXIV: Stormblood and are eagerly waiting to jump right in and level your favorite red-coated, feather hat wearing, caster, the Red Mage? Well in order to get started, you have to meet a few requirements first, none of which should be too difficult as long as you’ve been playing up to the most recent expansion, Heavensward.

First you have to at least be level 50 in either the Disciple of War or Magic class, and also have access to the Stormblood expansion (obviously). Unlike the Heavensward jobs, you actually don’t even need access to the new areas. You can jump right into Red Mage without starting a single new main scenario quest.

Simply head on over to the Distraught Lass found in the Steps of Thal in Ul’Dah at x’14,y’11 and begin the quest: “Taking the Red.” From there, you can follow the quest instructions, or check out our unlock guide which comes packed in with some beginner tips to get you through the first early levels. The Red Mage is a ranged caster class in Stormblood that combines both White and Black magic to preform powerful attacks alongside mixing in melee weapon skills to boot. You’ll need to be mindful of how much magic of each you use, as well as to know when the right time is to utilize your powerful melee attacks.

That does it for where to start and unlock the Red Mage quest in FFXIV: Stormblood. Don’t forget to use your Red Mage attire coffer so you can stay looking sharp. Best of luck in Ala’Mihgo!
