Gen IV added a number of special evolutions that require conditions beyond simple level-ups, and those unique conditions carry over to the remakes. If you’re curious about how Burmy’s evolution works, we can help. Here’s how to evolve Burmy into Mothim or Wormadam in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
How to Evolve Burmy Into Mothim & Wormadam
How to Get Mothim
This one is the simpler of the two. A male Burmy evolves into Mothim at level 20, and that’s all there is to it. Mothim is a Bug/Flying-Type Pokemon and it’s a final evolution, which means that you can’t get a Wormadam after Burmy evolves into Mothim.
How to Get Wormadam
On the other hand, a female Burmy will evolve into Wormadam at level 20. The biggest difference here is that Wormadam can be different types depending on Burmy’s cloak. Burmy’s cloak changes depending on the last place it participated in a battle. But once it evolves, the cloak can’t change.
A Plant Cloak Burmy evolves into a Bug/Grass-Type Wormadam, a Sand Cloak Burmy will become a Bug/Ground-Type, and a Trash Cloak changes into a Bug/Steel-Type. Burmy will change to Plant Cloak after battling in a grassy area or near water, a Sand Cloak when near sand or rocks, and a Trash Cloak when near urban areas with buildings.
Thankfully, you won’t need to get every single version of Wormadam to complete the Pokedex, so just pick the one that’s right for your team.
