How to Parry in God of War
The arcade-like hack and slash combat of old God of War games has been refined a little with a new over-the-shoulder camera angle. There are plenty of RPG elements in this latest iteration, and a much greater emphasis on timing strikes and dodging enemy blows. In addition to this, there’s also a parry move that counters enemy strikes and puts Kratos back on the offensive. It’s a critical skill to learn if you’re going to beat the game’s harder difficulty enemies.
To parry in God of War, block a the last second with L1 on PlayStation and Q on PC. To counterattck, you’ll first need to unlock the Countering Strike skill from the Shield Combat skill tree. Once you’ve done so, press R1 after a last-second block to counter the attack with a powerful shield strike. This ability can be upgraded further on the skill tree as you strengthen the axe.
The parry is a critical move to turn defense into attack and keep your enemies on the back foot. The timing can be a little tricky to master at first, but it’s well worth practicing.
That’s everything you’ll need to know in order to parry in God of War. Be sure to check out our God of War wiki for more tips, tricks, and guides.
