Though Kratos’ specialty is in dealing out massive amounts of damage to hordes of hapless foes, there will be occasions where it’s best to hunker down and shield yourself from harm in God of War. At this point, it’s probably a good idea to make sure you know how to block incoming attacks.

To do so, you need only hold L1 on PlayStation or Q on PC, and Kratos will block oncoming attacks, giving you a valuable opportunity to plan your next move. This isn’t foolproof of course, and there are some blows that not even Kratos can block.
