Genshin Impact All Elemental Reactions Explained

There are six main elements in Genshin Impact — seven if we include Dendro as well, even though there aren’t any playable Dendro characters yet. Each element creates a reaction when it comes into contact with another.

Here are summary points for each elemental reaction:

  • Anemo + any element = Swirl, which deals elemental damage of the applied element and causes more reactions as others are added in.
  • Geo + any element = Crystallize, which creates a shield taht increases resistance to the element added, but also increases vulnerability to that element’s weakness.
  • Pyro + Cryo = Melt, which deals double damage if Cryo is applied first, or 1.5x damage is Pyro is applied first.
  • Pyro + Hydro = Vaporize, which deals double damage if Pyro is applied first, or 1.5x damage if Hydro is applied first.
  • Pyro + Electro = Overload, which creates an AOE explosion.
  • Pyro + Dendro = Burning, which does damage over time.
  • Cryo + Hydro = Frozen, which does no damage, but holds targets in place. Frozen leads to Shatter when targets are hit with claymores, plunging attacks, Geo, or explosions.
  • Cryo + Electro = Superconduct, which deals AOE Cryo damage and lowers physical resistance of targets by 40%.
  • Hydro + Electro = Electro-Charged, which deals Electro damage over time to target and nearby enemies that are wet.

This helpful visual of what happens for each reaction was created by Genshin Impact Community Manager Sunmilk, based on an element chart that was created for PAX East 2020.
