Fortnite: How to Activate a Rift by Purchasing from a Character

The Fortnite week 14 challenges arrive this week, giving players one last chance to grind out some XP and Battle Stars in Chapter 2 Season 7 before the event this weekend. One of the epic quests requires players to ‘Activate a Rift by Purchasing from a Character.’ While this may sound straightforward enough, the tricky part comes in knowing which characters sell rifts without visiting each and every one of them around the map. Fortunately, that’s where this guide comes in. Here’s how to activate a rift by purchasing from a character in Fortnite.

This challenge will go live on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 10:00am ET/ 8:00am PT/ 3:00pm BST, alongside the rest of the week 14 epic and legendary quests.

The best place to do this is to head to Defiant Dish and speak to Rick Sanchez. He’ll normally be walking around the inside of the main building, but you’ll be able to pinpoint his exact location by following the speech bubble that appears when you’re close by.

Speak to Rick and you’ll be able to purchase a rift for 245 Gold. Simply select the option when speaking with them and as soon as you press A you’ll immediately use the rift, allowing you to get around to another area of the map.

Doing this will complete the challenge, earning you 30,000 XP for your troubles.

Keep in mind that it’s going to be pretty busy for the first couple of days that the Fortnite week 14 challenges go live, as everyone rushes to complete it.

As such, we’d recommend landing on a weapon and trying to get some Shields before speaking to Jonesy and grabbing the Rift, just in case someone tries to ambush you.
