Getting an Aether Compass in Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood

Recommended Videos

Aether Currents are back in Stormblood, which means that you’ll need an Aether Compass in order to locate them if you want to be able to fly around Ala Mhigo. If you’ve played through the Heavensward expansion, you’ll have automatically received a Compass by completing the MSQs. However, if you’ve misplaced it, you can get a new one in Stormblood.

After completing the A Bargain Struck MSQ, the game will inform you that you can get a Compass from either Gibrillont at the Forgotten Knight in Coerthas, or from Gaufrid in Rhalgr’s Reach. Once you have the Aether Compass, slot it somewhere on your hotbar and click it. Activating the Compass will let you know where the nearest Aether Current is, and you can walk towards it and interact with it. You’ll need to find and activate all of the Aether Currents in an area before you’re allowed to start flying around on your mounts.

Collecting all Aether Currents in the game isn’t necessary to complete the MSQs, but it will help you access a lot of hidden areas in the game.
