A new feature making its debut in Far Cry 5 is the companion system. Players will be able to deploy the special skills of several different companions throughout the game, according to the sort of tactical approach they’re taking to combat. Boomer is one such companion, a super smart and agile dog that comes in seriously handy for stealth section of gameplay. But you won’t be able to recruit him straight away.

To find Boomer, head toward the southwest area of the map, which is the area directly controlled by John Seed. There’s a ranch here called Rae Rae’s Pumpkin Farm (Holland Valley section of the map), which you’ll be directed to during one of the game’s side-quests. You’ll know you’re on your way when you hear a distress call. Once you’ve taken out the enemies and liberated the ranch, you’ll find Boomer. All you need to do is go and pet him. He’ll now be your loyal companion for the rest of the game.

To select him as your Fang for Hire, you’ll need to press the touchpad, and then R1 over to Roster. Select him and press X and then left on the dpad to assign him there.
