How to Watch Eurovision 2018 in America
Well people, Eurovision 2018 is very nearly upon us. Starting with the first rounds on May 8, all the way through to the final on May 12, European nations (also Australia for some reason) will battle it out for pop supremacy. Each country will perform its own original song, with the result decided by a combination of viewer votes and a panel of judges. For us in Europe, it’s as easy as switching on the TV to BBC One and getting stuck in, but for fans in America, what’s the best way to watch Eurovision 2018?
For the third year running, American broadcaster Logo TV will broadcast Eurovision 2018. It will feature commentary from Star of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Michelle Visage, as well as judge Ross Mathews. 64,000 viewers tuned in last year, with even more set for Eurovision 2018. While American viewers will be watching the same show as their European brethren, there are often some parts of the show that get cut due to licensing. Most famously, Justin Timberlake’s 2017 half-time performance couldn’t be shown in the US. It’s worth noting that while American fans can watch the show, they cannot be a part of the voting system.
Eurovision 2018 will take place in Portugal for the first time ever and Russia will return after their absence last year, along with 42 other countries. The favorite this year is Israel’s entry Netta Barzilai from Hod HaSharon. Her song, titled TOY, has already racked up millions of views on YouTube, and she reportedly wowed the judges during first rehearsals in Lisbon. Israel has won the contest three times before in 1978, 1979 and 1998.
You can watch Eurovision 2018 on Logo TV in America, where it will be simulcast on Logo’s website, the LogoTV mobile app, and on Logo’s YouTube channel.
