One Piece Film Red is quite a bit darker than you might think based off of its promotional art. Between its villain slaughtering an entire island of people and the evil plot it enacts revolving around being trapped in a dead diva’s dream, there’s more than a few elements that puts it well past being one of the darkest One Piece movies ever made. As such, you wouldn’t be blamed for wondering: Does Uta die in One Piece Film Red, or does she make it out alive thanks to Luffy and Shanks’ help?
Well, for better or worse, we’ve got the answer you’re looking for. Do be warned though: There are *Big Spoilers Ahead.*
Did Uta Die at the End of One Piece Film Red? Answered
While it isn’t explicitly stated or shown, we can say with a fair bit of certainty that Uta dies at the end of One Piece Film Red.
This is mainly due to the fact that she consumed the mushroom which was intended to kill her so that she could die without falling asleep. She did this to enact her New Genesis plan, wherein everyone ensnared by her Uta Uta powers wouldn’t be able to wake up until she either passed out or disabled her hold on them willingly. By dying, they would have been trapped in her dream world forever, and wouldn’t have experienced any suffering even if they died themselves.
Though she saw the error of her ways and Shanks tried to get her to fall asleep, Uta instead chose to remain conscious long enough to free everyone she’d trapped in her dream world during her concert. Shanks then took her with him and his crew in order to escape from the Navy, and though she doesn’t die in this span of time, Shanks’ and Luffy’s expressions hint at a shared understanding that Shanks is taking Uta with him so she can die in peace.
Can Uta Be Brought Back to Life?
It’s a grim fate for the film’s central character, but also one that’s to be expected given the track record of One Piece movie villains. Many of them have been killed or died through some other means by their films’ conclusions, and are never seen again due to the filler-ish nature of the films.
Given One Piece Film Red isn’t official canon to the One Piece story, there wasn’t the best chance of Uta making it out alive. Likewise, the chances of her being brought back or being revealed to be alive are equally slim to none.
