Destiny 2: How to Beat the Final Story Boss
This guides talks in-depth about Destiny 2’s final story mission. If you do not want to be spoiled please turn back and do not read any further. You have been spoiler warned.
In the final main story mission of Destiny 2, you’ll have to go one on one with Dominus Ghaul, the leader of the elite Red Legion faction of the Cabal. He succeeds in his quest to gain the power of the Light. So not only are you going to have to take down the Emperor of the Cabal, but you’ll have to deal with his new found powers stolen from the Traveler, powers previously reserved for Guardians.
Throughout the fight, he will switch between three primary elements for Guardians: Solar, Void, and Arc. While in Solar form, Ghaul will fly around and throw flaming swords. While in his Void form, he will launch Void bombs that will tether you similar to Nightstalker’s Shadowshot. Finally in Arc form, he will shoot a blast of energy that will stun you.
In any of these forms Ghaul is incredibly powerful and hits like a truck, so you’ll need to be incredibly careful. The best way to survive is play defensively. Clear out the enemies that are guarding Ghaul first so you only have to keep an eye on Ghaul himself. Use the bottom level of the map for cover if you need it.
Throughout the fight Rifts of Boundless Light will appear and will instantly charge your super. Try to pick a class that gives you multiple shots from afar, something like Dawnbringer or Sunbreaker. Ghaul is very quick, and something that requires him to stand still like Nova Bomb might be difficult to land.
Also, Ghaul will shift phases and jump into cocoon of sorts. He is invincible so make sure to use this time to charge your super and clear out any other enemies sitting around.
Play it safe, get to the Rifts of Boundless Light and use your super as much as you can on Ghaul until you’re able to finish him off once and for all.
After you’ve defeated him, enjoy the game’s epic final scenes!
Congratulations on completing the Destiny 2 campaign, Guardian! However more challenges await you and you can check them out here. Also, if you need help on any other part of Destiny 2, check out our wiki.
