Destiny 2 Ghost Shell Upgrade Guide: Beyond Light Changes

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Destiny 2’s Beyond Light expansion has arrived and with it comes a ton of new changes and additions. One such area of the game that has received major facelifts are ghosts. Beyond Light has added a lot of new functionality to our little light helpers. In this guide we’ll go over the changes to Ghosts in Beyond Light and what you should/can upgrade.

Upgrading Ghost Shell in Destiny 2

As of Beyond Light, your Ghost Shell can be upgraded and eventually masterworked now in Destiny 2 all the way up to level 10.

You will need to spend Legendary Shards, Glimmer and eventually Enhancement Cores, but you’ll never need Enhancement Prisms or Ascendant Shards thankfully.

Masterworking your Ghost Shell will unlock a final alternative mod socket for Activities. Let’s go over what kind of upgrades you can now put on your Ghost.

New Ghost Mods

You now have four different possible mod sockets to put upgrades & perks into your Ghost in Destiny 2. Below you can see what they are. Note that instant Sparrow summon is now intrinsic on all Sparrows, so no need to worry about looking for that popular perk.

  • Experience
  • Tracking
  • Economic
  • Activity (Ghost must be Masterworked)

Experience mods will increase your experience gains to varying degrees depending on the amount of energy you want to use (this concept applies to all of the ghost upgrade mods.

Tracking will help you find caches and planetary materials. Economic will give you ways to either find more Glimmer, Telemetry Data, or loot and materials from doing specific tasks. Finally, Activity will give a chance to obtain additional planetary materials from completing (and winning) Strikes, or Crucible and Gambit matches.

The answer to which is best is dependent on your preferences and needs. Personally, I want to blow through the season pass ranks as quickly as possible, so I maxed out the possible XP gain for five energy, and Glimmer as well for five energy so I can visit Spider as little as possible.

Then for my last slot, I added a 20-meter cache detection so I at least have some level of detection while exploring planets.

That’s everything we got for the new upgrade changes to Ghosts in Destiny 2: Beyond Light and future seasons. Hopefully this was helpful. For more tips, head over to our Beyond Light wiki.
