Pact of Smoke Door Codes

Deathloop: How to Get Pact of Smoke Door Codes (Smoking Contest)

Some of Deathloop’s trickiest puzzles require using the time loop to your advantage, revisiting the same areas of Blackreef but at different times for different results. That’s the case with the smoking contest puzzle in Updaam, which requires three different passwords to get past a locked door. Here’s how to get the Pact of Smoke door codes in Deathloop.

How to Get Pact of Smoke Door Codes in Deathloop

Pact of Smoke Door Codes

The Smoking Contest quest begins after you have explored a small room just outside Colt’s apartment in Updaamn. You can access the room by jumping through the window. After you get inside, you’ll find a strange device with three mouthpieces hooked up to a yellow contraption with a button. If you explore the room and read the nearby note and listen to the audio recording, you’ll discover that three Eternalists are playing a twisted game that is essentially Russian roulette but with poisonous gas.

Notice that the device is connected to another over in the corner via three colored pipes: red, blue, and yellow. Whichever has a green light next to it will ensure the person breathing the mouthpiece will survive. The other two will be choked to death.

To gain access to the locked door, you’ll need the passwords from all three Eternalists (remember, these are random for every game). The trouble is, two of them die every day, so it’s your job to ensure a different person dies each time so that you are then able to later find each of their passwords in different locations around Blackreef. This is a bit of an arduous task for what is, honestly, not a particularly exciting reward. Still, here’s a step-by-step if you’re determined to solve the puzzle:

  1. First things first, leave Updaam without interfering with the contraption and return in the afternoon. You will now discover Cassandra’s password in a note on the table (because she survived).

  2. Now leave and return again to the same room in the morning. This time, press the button on the machine over in the corner that is connected to the suffocation device until the light shows green for the red pipe.

  3. Now leave, and then visit Karl’s Bay in the afternoon. Go left out of the tunnels, then along the road, past the ‘Forever Young’ sign, and through the ‘Garden of Perception’ passageway.

  4. Once on the other side, continue onward for a bit until you see the open door.

  5. Explore the very back of this room to find Vanya’s Pact of Smoke note on a desk.

  6. Now leave Karl’s Bay and return to the Smoking Room in Updaam in the morning. This time, press the button until the green light is beside the blue pipe. Now leave Updaam and return to Karl’s Bay once again in the afternoon.

  7. Proceed in the same direction as before, through the ‘Garden of Perception’ and onto the other side. This time, though, instead of going into the room with the open door,

  8. Now jump over the roof you’ll see in front of you, then turn around when you jump off the building on the other side. Be careful of the Eternalists around here. Inside this building is

  9. You will find Anatoly’s Pact of Smoke inside this building.

  10. You now have all three passwords, so return to Updaam in the morning and enter them into each lock to open the door. Enjoy the underwhelming prize!
