Using Pyromancy in Dark Souls III

Recommended Videos

Pyromancy is the badass art of using fire spells in the palm of your hand, and you can access them fairly early on in Dark Souls III. First off, if you do start off with the Pyromancer class at the beginning of the game, your starting equipment will include a Pyromancy Flame and the Fireball spell.

For the rest of us mortals, we’ll have to locate Cornyx of the Great Swamp in the Undead Settlement. He’ll be imprisoned in a cage at the top of one of the buildings near the Cliffside bonfire. There’ll be a few Undead throwing bombs at you, so be careful. Speak to Cornyx, tell him that you want to learn Pyromancy, and he’ll teleport straight to Firelink Shrine. Go back to Firelink Shrine and speak with him, and he’ll hand over a Pyromancy Flame and sell you a bunch of spells.

Like all forms of magic in Dark Souls III, you’ll need to attune them at a bonfire before you can use spells. Sit at a bonfire, attune magic, and you’ll be able to equip spells in your available slots. Slots can be increased by leveling your Attunement stat. Once they’re attuned, equip your new Flame, and you’ll be good to go. Remember that casting magic will consume FP (which can be restored with Ashen Estus Flasks), and you’ll need to make sure that you have the minimum stats required to wield them.

More Pyromancies can be unlocked later on in the game when you get to Irithyll Dungeon and free Karla the Pyromancer. However, you’ll need the Jailer’s Keyring (found in the Profaned Capital) to unlock her jail cell and rescue her. Once she’s back in Firelink Shrine, you’ll be able to buy Pyromancies from her as well.
