Cyberpunk 2077 was initially unveiled back in 2012, and after a long wait and a few delays, it’s finally become a very real game that you can actually play on PC and consoles. Taking place in a bustling metropolis called Night City, players will take control of V, as they explore a large open-world while taking on quests and picking up items. Every so often, you’ll find pieces of lore that you can read to learn more about the world as well. Here’s how to read Shards in Cyberpunk 2077.
Reading Shards in Cyberpunk 2077
Like most other modern video games, Cyberpunk 2077 also features journal entries that you can collect in the open-world and read in your spare time. They’re indicated by yellow icons that will glow whenever you’re near them, or if you press the L1 or LB button to enter scanner mode to highlight them.
Whenever you see a Shard, just head over and pick it up with the square or X button, and it’ll automatically get added to your journal.
To actually read them, you’ll need to bring up your character menu by pressing the touchpad or the View button. Use your cursor to hover over ‘Journal’, and the Shards option should pop up below it. Use your cursor to hover over that, then press the X or A button to confirm your selection.
From here, you’ll see a whole list of Shards that you’ve collected over the course of your playthrough. You can then select each individual one to read them, and all unread ones will be marked with New.
It’s certainly not necessary to read every single one of them to complete the game, especially since there are so many to collect in Night City. However, some quests may specifically task you with picking up and reading a Shard. When that happens, it’s definitely helpful to know how to actually do that.
That’s all you need to know about how to read Shards in Cyberpunk 2077. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
