This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Code Vein has a dynamic partner system that lets you bring along an NPC ally to help you explore, but you can also bring along a friend for the ride, if you want to. The multiplayer system can be a little convoluted, however, so we’re here to tell you how to play co-op multiplayer with friends in Code Vein.

How to Play Co-Op Multiplayer With Friends in Code Vein

The first thing you need to ensure if you want to play multiplayer is that you’re playing Code Vein in Online Mode. Whenever you start the game up it’ll ask you if you want to play in Online or Offline mode, so make sure to choose the former.

If, for whatever reason, you’re disconnected from Online mode, you’ll need to back out to the main menu and reselect the option.

Now when you load into the game open the main menu with the options button (guide on Xbox One). Go to the multiplayer tab and then press triangle (Y) to open Network Options.

You’ll want to select the password option and set a password, then have your friend set the exact same password.

Now you’re finally ready, and in the multiplayer menu one player can select the Send a Distress Signal option, while the other selects the Search For a Distress Signal option.

You should match together and be good to go, however, there are a couple of caveats to this system.

You can’t send a distress signal in any area where you’ve already defeated the boss. You also can’t send one in the middle of a boss battle, and you’ll need to do it before engaging the boss.

To summarize how to play co-op multiplayer in Code Vein:

  1. Start the game and select the Online Mode option

  2. Open the main menu with the options or guide button and select the multiplayer tab

  3. Press triangle (Y) to open Network Options and set a password for matchmaking, have your friend set the same password

  4. Now one of you can select Send Distress Signal, while the other selects Search For a Distress Signal

That covers everything you need to know about how to play co-op multiplayer with friends in Code Vein.
