Borderlands 3 has finally arrived on Xbox One, PS4, and PC, and players are already busy diving into the world of Pandora and beyond, uncovering the millions of weapons, and leveling out their character with unique abilities to suit their playstyle. If you’re wanting to pick up Borderlands 3 on multiple consoles, but don’t want to have different save files, you might be wondering if the game has cross-save compatibility.
Borderlands 3 Cross-Save: What You Need to Know
Cross-Save compatibility would allow players to carry over their save file and character from one platform, such as PS4, or Xbox One, and play it on the other console, or PC.
Unfortunately, Borderlands 3 will not have any cross-save functionality. This was confirmed by a 2K Support rep in a conversation with a member of the Borderlands 3 sub-reddit. You can read the response in the screenshot below:
This means that if you do want to play Borderlands 3 with friends on one platform, and on your own or with another group on another platform, you’ll need to level up two characters and go through twice the grind.
Could Cross-Save Come with Borderlands 3 Cross-Play?
While Gearbox has confirmed that cross-play is coming to Borderlands 3 at some point post-launch, they haven’t made any comment regarding this also bringing a cross-save system with it.
This would likely have to revolve around the Epic Games Account login system, and would require players to login on all platforms with their account to carry over progress. That’s just me theorizing how it could be implemented, though. For now, it’s not confirmed.
