How to Recruit Ship Lieutenants in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

In the spirit of the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey transports players to the past, this time to Ancient Greece. The game uses the same systems implemented with Assassin’s Creed Origins, therefore being much more of an RPG than previous games in the series. The naval sections introduced with AC III also make a big comeback, with much more of a focus than in Origins. One of the bigger changes to this, however, is the ability to recruit right-hand men and women, who will then join your crew on the high seas. Before you can assemble a crew, though, you’ll need to know how to recruit ship lieutenants.

There are basically two different ways of recruiting them. When you complete sidequest, at times, NPCs will give you the option of recruiting them after you’ve completed their quest. This is generally the easiest way to get more of them, as you’ll most likely be completing sidequests, anyway.

But there aren’t many of these missions that will give you new people to recruit. For more variety and quantity, you’ll need to take matters into your own hands.

The other way is by sneaking up on an enemy and knocking them out with the L3 button. Once they’re knocked out, you can press L3 on them again to send them to your ship.

From there, you can go to your ship menu, select the section that pertains to this, and then you’ll be able to recruit that NPC with a bit of money. Now that you know how to recruit ship captains you should be able to build your own crew and head out to the high seas.

With a crew in place, you’ll also want to know how to pick up naval quests, which we can also help with.

That covers everything you need to know about how to recruit ship lieutenants in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. For more help on your trip through Ancient Greece, take a look at our Assassin’s Creed Odyssey wiki.
