Is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Coming to Nintendo Switch?
Assassin’s Creed made a comeback last year with the brilliant Origins. After a twelve-month hiatus, the series got itself right back on track with what almost felt like a reboot. The new emphasis on role-playing elements and the revamped combat system totally transformed the experience; largely abandoning the focus on the modern-day Abstergo storyline arguably streamlined the narrative experience, too. Now, Ubisoft prepares to launch the next game in the series, Odyssey, which promises to lean even more heavily into the RPG blueprint laid down by Origins. But the big question that will be on the minds of every Nintendo Switch player keen to try out this reborn Assassin’s Creed style will be whether it’s destined to launch on Nintendo Switch. Here’s what you need to know.
Unfortunately, we’ve got bad news: Ubisoft has no plans to release Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on Nintendo Switch. Despite the strong bond between the developer/publisher and Nintendo, they’ve suggested nothing that makes us think that marquee titles such as Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry are ever going to make their way over to the big N’s hybrid console. We’re not even sure the hardware could run such a huge open world experience, but we do know that we’d absolutely love to have the option to play an Assassin’s Creed game both on the go or at home on the big screen. Sadly, that doesn’t look likely to ever be an option.
Of course, never say never, and with the popularity of Nintendo Switch driving more and more third-party publishers to consider developing games for the hardware, maybe we will one day see AAA Assassin’s Creed games in the palm of our hands. We’ll certainly keep you posted if that’s ever mooted as a possibility.
Until then, you’ll have to be content to play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
