Stone Axe vs. Axe in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Once you become a homeowner and get upgraded to the Nook Miles+ program, you’ll be able to purchase the Pretty Good Tools recipe book for 3,000 Miles. This allows you craft sturdier tools that will last longer, and break less often.

However, what you might not know is that this actually unlocks two new Axes for you to craft: the Stone Axe and the regular Axe.

The Stone Axe is cheaper to craft, only requiring the flimsy axe and a piece of stone. The regular variant requires three pieces of wood and an iron nugget. Both versions are sturdy and will last a while, but they both serve different purposes.

The main difference between these two tools is that the Stone Axe cannot chop down trees, while the regular Axe can do so in just two hits. This means that which Axe you craft ultimately depends on what you need at the moment.

If you want to landscape the island and move the trees out of the way, your best bet is to craft the regular variant and go crazy. However, if you don’t want to mess with the trees and would like to keep their default positions, the Stone Axe is the way to go. It allows you to continue gathering wood and materials from the trees, while still keeping them intact.

That’s all you need to know about whether to get the Stone Axe or regular Axe in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
