Although the flight physics in Ace Combat 7 are very much geared toward an arcade experience, there are still several more complex maneuvers you’ll want to familiarize yourself with to keep the enemy off your tail. Here’s how to post stall maneuver in Ace Combat 7.

First, let’s clarify what a post stall is, since Ace Combat 7 is the first game to really feature the maneuver to such an extent.

An aircraft stalls when there is not enough air passing over and underneath its wings to maintain stable flight. All aircraft have a stall speed, but some aircraft are able to stay airborne even below this speed.

In the case of Ace Combat 7, we’re talking about high-powered jet aircraft that generate a huge amount of thrust to stay in the air. Typically, military aircraft that perform post stall maneuvers also have thrust vectoring, which is the ability to direct thrust from the cockpit.

It should be noted that not all aircraft in Ace Combat 7 can perform a post stall maneuver. Specific planes, such as the F-1, F-22, Su-27, etc.

There are two maneuvers you’ll need to understand: the Cobra, and the Kulbit. Both maneuvers are related to each other, since the latter is really just the completion of the first.

In the Cobra, you’ll suddenly pull your nose up vertically, slowing the aircraft with the intention of the enemy moving past you and becoming open to a counter-attack. The Kulbit takes things one step further, looping tightly from the vertical position.

Again, some aircraft can only Cobra and not Kulbit.

To perform either of these maneuvers, drop your airspeed to below 450. Once you’ve done that, hit your acceleration and deceleration buttons at the same time while pulling the stick back. This will initiate a Cobra, and continuing pullback will Kulbit. You can also double Kulbit with some aircraft.
