Half-Life fans will feel they willed a new entry in the series into existence after having wished it for so many years. Although, a VR game probably isn’t what they would have had in mind. Still, at its core, Half-Life: Alyx is still a proper Half-Life experience, defined by excellent storytelling brought to life by superb voice acting. Here we’re going to run through its cast of the Half-Life Alyx voice actors.
Half-Life Alyx Voice Actors
Ozioma Akagha – Alyx Vance
Half-Life: Alyx’s titular protagonist is played by Ozioma Akagha, an actress who draws on experience across television and video games to breathe life into the role. She’s featured in games like Wolfenstein: The New Colossus (Barbara Casey), and Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst (Plastic). Her best-known work in the TV industry isas Tamar in Hulu’s Runaways.
James Moses Black – Dr. Eli Vance
Half-Life: Alyx isn’t James Moses Black’s first role in a video game, but it’s by far his most notable. Previously only having played minor roles in Infamous 2 and LA Noire, he takes a leading role in Alyx as Dr. Eli Vance. Moses’ experience is mostly comprised of work in television, having featured in productions like 24: Legacy (Donald Simms), and This is Us (Reverend Hawley). He also recently played Officer Brown in the film Black and Blue.
Rhys Darby – Russell
Rhys Darby is comfortably Half-Life: Alyx’s most esteemed cast member having starred in several Hollywood productions. You’ll surely recognize the New Zealander from his roles in the series Flight of the Concords (Murray Hewitt), the film Yes Man (Norman), and recently Jumanji (Nigel). Darby started his professional career as a comedian before scoring acting roles in the mid-2000s.
Half-Life Alyx Voice Actors
Mike Shapiro – G-Man
The spooky and nefarious G-Man is played by Mike Shapiro, who has played the character right the way through the entire series (as well as Barney, too). Shapiro’s resume is actually comprised mostly of minor video game roles, including Dota 2’s Oracle.
Not a character you’ll ever see in the flesh but a hugely important one in the Half-Life universe nonetheless. The Combine Overwatch, as she’s known, is the narrating voice that echoes across City 17. It’s a voice you’ll also recognize if you’ve played the Portal series, too, given she played the iconic AI GLaDOS.
Ellen McLain retains her role as the Combine Overwatch, an opera singer and voice actor whose voice has feature in Hollywood films like Pacific Rim, as well as other video games, such as Left 4 Dead, and Team Fortress 2.
