Do You Have an Xbox One?

With Microsoft’s Xbox One X now unveiled and set to release in November, many players will be wondering if the console is actually right for them. That’s where we’ve come in to help. All you need to do is click on the answer at the bottom of the page that best applies to you and keep doing so until you arrive at your answer. Just ignore those pesky arrows up at the top of the page. They’ll just try and cloud your judgement (and completely break the quiz, too!)

Let’s start things off nice and easy. On your first step to discovering whether you and the upcoming Xbox One X are a match made in heaven, the first thing we need to know is whether or not you already have an Xbox One in your home?

Whether you’ve got the original Xbox One or last year’s revised Xbox One S, the Xbox One X will still provide a number of improvements to your gaming experience. Of course, if you don’t already have one, there are a few other questions you might want to take into account first.

Do You Have a 4K TV?

Playing games at 1080p has brought us some great-looking experiences for the past few years regardless of what console you’ve played them on. While that’s all well and good, the Xbox One X is coming to deliver the very finest console experience that money can buy. That is, if you have the right display to make use of all that additional power.

The headline feature of the Xbox One X is its ability to display native or ‘true’ 4K resolutions. This means that you’re not getting the upscaled business that the PS4 Pro offers on most of its games, but the real deal. Everything you see in the game will be that much more detailed and the image will be much crisper as a result, too. Of course, none of this matters if you don’t have a 4K TV or display. So, do you already have a 4K display in your home?

Do You Want an Xbox One?

xbox one, backwards compatibility

You don’t have an Xbox One already, and that’s completely fine. Perhaps you decided to wait on this generation for a while, or maybe you opted to pick up Sony’s PS4 instead.

Whatever your situation is with the current generation, there’s a pretty important question to ask yourself if you don’t already have an Xbox One. Do you even want an Xbox One in the first place?

Are Better Framerate and Load Times Crucial to You?

Forza Motorsport 7

If you don’t have a 4K display, the Xbox One X still has a number of features and improvements that may be of interest to you. Thanks to the nippier hard drive, increased amount of RAM and faster bandwidth speeds, the Xbox One X can reduce load times in your games, as well as offer enhanced framerates for those running a standard HD display.

Of course, whether or not dropping $449 on an Xbox One X for these more minor improvements over the original Xbox One or One S is down to personal preference. If you’re looking for the very best experience on your current setup, however, then at least you know that the Xbox One X has at least something to offer you.

Is Your TV HDR Compatible?

Gears of War 4

With your TV outputting stunning, crisp 4K images, you’re already going to benefit from picking up an Xbox One X. However, the Xbox One X follows in the footsteps of the Xbox One S by offering HDR support, too.

While having an HDR capable TV isn’t a huge deal, it will make colors look ‘truer’ to their real-life counterparts. HDR technology essentially allows your TV to display wayyy more colors than the standard 8-bit color process of non-HDR TVs. To put this into context, a non-HDR TV can display 16 million colors, while the 10-bit HDR process can display 1 billion colors.

While HDR is already available on the Xbox One S, the technology really is at its best when you pair it up with a stunning 4K resolution. All of those fantastic details are brought to life with a wider gamut of color, and it makes for some vivid, breathtaking landscapes that simply don’t look as good when the two technologies aren’t paired together.

Do You Have the Money for the Xbox One X?

microsoft, xbox, power

So you’re interested in picking up an Xbox One, and that’s great news, but you’re not limited to picking up the Xbox One X. With a price tag of $499, it’s fair to say that the One X comes in at the higher end of the scale when it comes to console gaming cost. While some players will have the money saved and ready to spend come Nov. 7, not everyone has that kind of money to drop on a shiny new system.

On top of that price tag, it’s worth remembering that you’ve also got a couple of additional purchases to make use of said new system. A couple of games to keep you occupied, an Xbox Live Gold membership so you can play online, and maybe a few accessories on top of that can run you an extra couple of hundred dollars.

No, the Xbox One Family Isn’t For You

microsoft, xbox one

We thought some of you might check out this quiz to see if we had this option in there, so we hope we did you proud. You don’t own an Xbox One because you don’t want one, and the Xbox One X just isn’t going to change that. You’re still getting the same games, controller, and overall experiences as you would on the original Xbox One or the revise One S, they’re just going to look and play better.

Dropping $499 on a system that you’re just not at all interested in isn’t a smart move, and as such, we don’t recommend that you pick up the One X.

No, But The Xbox One S Is a Great Alternative

Xbox One S, Microsoft

While you’ve yet to pick up an Xbox One and join in on all the fun, the Xbox One X’s $499 price tag is a pretty high entry point. Especially when you have to factor in any games, memberships, and accessories you want to pick up on top of that.

That doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all of the fun, though. The Xbox One S has the same library of games, online services, and accessories, allowing you to get the same base experience, just without all the extra polish that the 4K capable One X can offer. Of course, the cherry on the top of the Xbox One S cake is the fact you can grab the system on Amazon for half the price of the One X on Amazon right now. By the time you’ve touched the One X’s price, you’ll already have a selection of the system’s best games, a membership, and maybe even an extra controller on top of your One S, too.

All Is Looking Good, But Maybe Check Out These Questions First

Okay, so you’re in the market for an Xbox One and have the money to spend on the very finest member of Microsoft’s Xbox One family. While we’d normally say go ahead and pick up the 4K powerhouse, we don’t want you to go ahead and buy a system that you aren’t going to get your money’s worth out of.

As such, we recommend following the link below and answering a few more questions. This’ll help inform you a little bit more about what the One X is able to offer over the other Xbox One systems, as well as identify whether or not it’s worth you paying the extra cash for it.

No, The Improvements Just Aren’t Worth It

microsoft, xbox, e3 2017, xbox one x

Unfortunately, in your current circumstances, the Xbox One X just isn’t really a viable or worthwhile purchase for you. Sure, you could see slight improvements in load times or framerates but in our personal opinion, it doesn’t seem worthwhile for you to pick up the newest member of the Xbox One family.

Not only is the Xbox One X not getting any exclusives – meaning you’ll be able to play each and every game on your current system – but you don’t consider load times or slight framerate boosts to be crucial to your experience, and that’s perfectly fine. Go forth and continue your gaming fun with your current system, and spend any saved cash on more games or a shiny new controller.

Maybe, Depends on Your Future Purchases

Xbox One X, e3 2017, microsoft

Congratulations! You’ve found yourself in the grey area of our quiz. Without a 4K TV, it’s fair to say that you’re going to miss out on the biggest and most impressive feature that the Xbox One X is going to bring to the table. However, you’re love for smooth framerates and speedier load times means that you’ll still notice some improvements with the Xbox One X. Exactly whether those improvements are worth the extra cash, is a personal preference, though.

As such, we’d consider thinking about whether your near future has a 4K TV on the cards for you. If it does, great, an Xbox One X could be considered a bit of an investment. If it doesn’t, then again, it all comes down to whether the more minor improvements are worth the extra cash.

Yes, The Xbox One X Gives You the Experience You’re After

The Xbox One X is absolutely for you. You want true 4K resolutions. You want speedier load times and smoother framerates. You basically want the finest console experience on the market.

As long as you’ve got the money saved up to drop on the Xbox One X, we’d say you tick all of the boxes for upgrading your old system and grabbing this one. Welcome to the 4K future!

Probably, Depends How Much You Like 4K

State of Decay 2

While your TV is capable of displaying the all-important 4K resolution, it doesn’t have HDR technology. This isn’t a complete dealbreaker for you picking up an Xbox One X, but it will hinder the picture quality simply because the range of colors and the contrast will be limited.

It’s not the end of the world, though. The jump from 1080p to 4K is still very much noticeable. Plus, you’ll still get the smaller improvements such as faster load times and smoother framerates that the Xbox One X’s extra power also provides.

Plus, the One X’s UHD blu-ray player is a sweet little bonus feature for when you want to take a break from games. While it’s nothing new to owners of last year’s One S, it sure is to those with a 4K TV and an original Xbox One, or those who have yet to become a part of the Xbox family.
