tekken, tekken 7, multiplayer

The Tekken series returns with the seventh entry and the classic fight mechanics and cinematic, story-driven battles you’d expect. This time, ‘in the epic conclusion of the Mishima clan, unravel the reasons behind each step of their ceaseless fight.’

Critics have praised it for it for its excellent fighting mechanics, with the new rage system adding an all new dynamic to the combat. The characters are interesting and varied but the game is not perfect. It has been criticized for its lack of modes and story that isn’t as thrilling and blockbusting as it thinks it is. It is still a fighter worth playing.

4) Dirt 4 – Average Metacritic Score: 84

Dirt 4 follows the usual structure of the series that sees you hurtle round tight corners and attempt to set the fastest time in powerful rally cars. However, Dirt 4 features more content that any racer Codemasters has developed before. On top of the substantial career mode, there is online play, and the new Your Stage feature that allows you to create your own stages within seconds by simply adjusting two sliders, one for length and the other for complexity.

While critics praised Dirt 4 for its design and stunning visuals, the majority of complementary reviews focused on the Your Stage feature and what it added to the game. It offers far more content than most racing games and prompts you to keep playing even after you’ve finished the career. It is the complete rally game experience.

3) Wipeout: Omega Collection – Metacritic Score: 85

Wipeout: Omega Collection features all the content from Wipeout HD, Fury, and 2048, making it the most complete collection in the long running combat racer series. There’s a lot of content (26 reversible circuits and 46 unique ships) that, while probably familiar to fans of the series, offers plenty of variation.

Critics have praised how well the games have stood the test of time. While the old titles have been remastered, the Omega Collection looks as good and runs as well as any other racer available today. The frantic gameplay, featuring some excellent weapons, makes the game an excellent choice for any racing fan, whether they’ve played the series before. The pulsing soundtrack is also excellent and adds to the adrenaline-fueled action.

2) Cave Story + – Metacritic Score: 87

cave story

Cave Story is a re-release of a decade old 2D action platformer that takes you into a world where a race of innocent, rabbit-like creatures called Mimiga run free. It is an action game with tough gameplay and interesting bosses. It has certainly stood the test of time with its gameplay, graphics, and soundtrack all remaining excellent today. The level design keeps the world interesting and the bosses challenging. The variety of endings also make it a game you’ll want to play repeatedly. It is the definitive version of the game that you should play whether you have experienced it before or not.

1) Nex Machina  – Metacritic Score: 89

Housemarque has become known for their mastery of the twin-stick shooter genre and they’ve returned with their new title, Nex Machina. It probably has the most frantic gameplay of their releases but it is also up their with their best. The Arcade Mode may be short but it is challenging, well designed, beautiful to look at, and full of secrets.

Critics across the board praised it for the a number of reasons. They loved the precise gameplay that you learn more about each time you play and whenever you change difficulty. The enemies are varied and perfectly placed in the levels, the controls are simple, and it is a great example of a modern version of the arcade shooters of old. It is not only the best game of the month according to Metacritic, but it also won our award for the best game of June.
