VR

VR is an exciting new venture for many gamers. Offering players the chance to get even more immersed in their favorite worlds and interact with everything around them is certainly a stray away from the traditional method of playing games, but it isn’t for everyone.

Therefore, let’s start off on our journey nice and easy. Have you ever tried VR before? All you have to do is click on the YES or NO below to this question and all following ones, and we’ll see if VR is your cup of tea.

Does It Interest You?

PlayStation VR, impressions, Project Morpheus

You’ve never tried VR before and that’s not unusual. After all, many opportunities to try the fancy headsets out have been at trade shows or big events. However, that doesn’t immediately mean that PSVR is out of the question. What’s more important is whether or not the idea of virtual reality interests you. Do you want to interact with your games without the constraints of a controller and simply staring at a screen?

As we said, not everyone will find the prospects of VR all that interesting, but for others, this is the step in gaming they’ve been waiting for. Whichever camp you fit into, simply click your answer below.

Did You Like It?

Okay so you’ve had your first taste of VR, but not everyone who tries it out always likes it, despite their preconceived beliefs. While many will find the experience an addictive joy, others will prefer to game in the more traditional way.

Which camp did you fall into? Were you a VR believer after your experience? Did a string of motion sickness turn you away from the tech? You know the drill by now, click your answer!

Are you looking for a lower-quality experience for a lower price?

vr, virtual reality, vive, rift, PSVR, samsung, google, gear, cardboard, winner, best

You’re a fan of VR and you’ve made it this far. However, this is where things start to get a little more tricky. There are three different premium VR headsets out on the market at the moment: the PSVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive. Out of the three, the PSVR offers the lowest-quality experience, offering only 1080p resolution while its competitors boast 1200p. It’s still by no means a bad headset. In fact, we quite like it. It also comes in a fair bit cheaper than the two alternatives.

If you’re willing to get the lower-quality experience for a lower price, click yes. If you’re looking for only the best VR experience, you’re a no.

Do You Have a PC Capable of Running Vive or Oculus Rift?

PC gift guide

Understandably, you’re wanting to get the very best VR experience you can possibly get. You loved VR so much that you want to see everything incredibly clearly and reap the benefits that come with picking up one of the better-quality headsets. That’s all well and good, but it’s worth remembering that these headsets also require a pretty powerful PC to keep everything running nice and smooth.

You can check the minimum requirements of both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on their respective websites. Does your rig measure up, and if not, are you willing to pay for one that does?

Do You Have These Controllers?

PlayStation Move, PS VR

Whether it’s in the interest of money, or you’ve just enjoyed an experience you’ve had with the PSVR, you’re happy to pick it up despite it being the lower-quality experience. Now to think about the final cost.

First things first, not all PSVR games will require them, but some key experiences will need the PlayStation Move controllers. These are the same ones that came out for the PS3, so if you still have two lying around, they’ll do the job.

Do You Have This Camera?

ps camera

Okay, you don’t have those fancy controllers with the colorful balls on the end. While not having them is going to add a little to your experience, there’s still one way you can knock a good chunk of money off your total PSVR purchase.

Do you have the PlayStation Camera that released with the PS4? This was largely used for the Playroom back when the system first released and since, streamers have used it to easily broadcast themselves. Answers below!

Can You Afford $1000+

psvr

You’ve not tried VR, but it interests you and you don’t have a PS4 yet. Do you have the leeway in your budget to pick up the console and VR bundle? Of course, if you’re not interested in a PS4, you may want to look at one of the PC alternatives.

The cost of a PS4 and PSVR with everything you need to get started is $800 for the hardware. But remember, you’ll need some games to play on your system too and once you’ve factored these in you’re looking more at around the $1000 mark. That depends on how many titles you pick up, of course.

You Have the Controllers, What About the Camera?

ps camera

You’ve got yourself a pair of those funny-looking Move controllers, which can help you save some money. But, you’ll save a butt load more money if you have the PlayStation Camera as well.

You may have picked one up when the PS4 first released, and you may have completely forgotten about it. This is gonna be necessary for tracking your PlayStation VR headset and the Move controllers’ movements while you game.

Can You Afford $499?

PlayStation VR, Project Morpheus, impressions

As you don’t have every part of the PSVR set up that you’ll need, you’d actually be best off picking up one of the PlayStation VR Launch Bundles.

The price for the Launch Bundle is $499, not bad considering you get all the bits and pieces you’ll need to get started, and you’ll get PlayStation VR Worlds to try out with your shiny new headset as well. Of course, it’s still an incredibly expensive piece of tech to pick up on top of the console and games you’ve already been purchasing.

Can You Afford $459?

PlayStation VR, Project Morpheus, impressions

You’ve almost got everything you need to jump into the PSVR experience, but you’re missing that pesky PlayStation Camera. Unfortunately, it’s a pretty integral piece of the PlayStation VR setup as it’s used to track all of those lights on the headset and controllers and, in turn, your movements. Therefore, you’re going to need to buy one on top of the picking up the PSVR headset itself.

You can pick up one of the new redesigned models for $59.99 from Amazon currently, so adding this onto the standard $399 for the headset itself isn’t a bad deal if you’re eager to jump into VR.

Can You Afford $399?

Lucky you! You’ve already got everything you need other than the headset to jump straight into your PSVR experience. While you’ve still got quite a bit to pay for the main piece itself, you’re going to be saving a good $100.

Picking up the PSVR headset on its own is $399.99 and more than likely will be for quite a while to come. While this is definitely a good chunk cheaper than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, it’s still pretty pricey if you weren’t anticipating picking one up.

Not Right Now, But Keep Saving!

You currently can’t afford the premium that everything you’ll need for PlayStation VR comes in at, but that’s completely fine. In fact, it might actually work out to your advantage. Yes, you’ll have to wait a little longer while you get the cash together, but when you’re ready to take the dive, many of the launch titles may have dropped in price and there will already be a bunch of new games on the market.

Keep on saving and counting down the days until you can grab one for yourself. A VR future is in your sights, and it’ll be all the more glorious when you get your hands on it.

What About This?

Ubisoft

Ahh yes. One of the beauties of virtual reality is its ability to let you do things you could quite literally never do normally. Eagle Flight is exactly one of those games, transforming players into a majestic eagle and letting them loose over the beautiful city of Paris. You can even glide around with your friends.
