THE BIG GAME
PS PLUS FREE GAMES FOR MARCH 2018
Every month, subscribers to Sony’s PlayStation Plus program are granted access to online multiplayer as well as a few free games that can only be downloaded during that specific month free of charge.
Usually one larger game, often from a AAA studio, headlines the list to both entice players to join and please those who have. Currently for February 2018 both Knack and Rime were placed on PS Plus, both larger and more well-known titles that made numerous Sony fans pretty happy.
This month, we suspect 2015 steampunk action-adventure title The Order: 1886 from Ready at Dawn will be that larger title for PS Plus March 2018. Since it was first released The Order: 1886 got some pretty weak reviews from game publications, but did receive some praise for its filmic presentation and interesting re-imagining of a steampunk London. Since then it has dropped in price to below $20 but sometimes as low as $5 during certain sales. At that price, it’s not hard to imagine it making it to PS Plus, if not next month then sometime pretty soon. It also wasn’t included in the Black Friday sale a few months back, meaning Sony might have some plans for it in the long run as well.
The Order: 1886 was a game that probably went under the radar for quite a few players in 2015, so it would be a nice one to have on standby via PS Plus in case there was every an afternoon you were willing to try it out. It’s quite short after-all, with the total length of the game coming out to around 7-8 hours.
Check out page two where we look at a few possible indie inclusions you could see in March 2018.
INDIES
PS PLUS FREE GAMES FOR MARCH 2018
After the big game(s), a few smaller indie titles usually make the list for PS Plus every month to please those who might want a little variety in the games they get for free.
For March 2018 we wouldn’t be surprised to see beautiful action RPG title Bastion, due to a couple reasons. The first being that Bastion has been an extremely well-received indie since it first came to PS4 in 2015, praised for its art style, narration, gameplay, and overall story. Sony has been known to make sure some super popular indies make the list from time to time, say for example Super Meat Boy in June 2015 or Abzu in May 2017.
Secondly, Bastion is currently available as a cross-buy title, meaning when purchased you get a copy for both PS4 and PS Vita, and we all know how much Sony loves to kill two birds with one stone and include games that work on multiple platforms for PS Plus.
Another likely candidate is Shovel Knight, which first came to PS4 back in 2014. Along with Bastion, Shovel Knight is a heavy-hitter indie with immense popularity that would be sure to please PS Plus subscribers, but also the game is already available on numerous other consoles with the most recent being the Nintendo Switch. Therefore, it wouldn’t be too crazy to think that Sony might be inclined to include it in its lineup since it is likely losing sales for the title anyways to other newer consoles.
Finally on page three we’ll look at what VR title Sony might include for its PSVR system next month free for PS Plus members.
VR GAME
PS PLUS FREE GAMES FOR MARCH 2018
Not every single month, but often enough, Sony also includes a free PSVR game in PS Plus to keep happy those who chose the console VR system over the other two PC models, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
Recently, VR spinoff game Until Dawn: Rush of Blood was included free to players in November 2017, and next month we think it would be great to see PSVR exclusive Dino Frontier be the next VR game to make the list.
Offering players a free game that is also a PSVR exclusive is a smart move, as it entices those on the fence about getting a VR system with Sony with a few special games, they might also be able to play them for free. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is also a PSVR exclusive, so it seems Sony is aware that including such games is pretty good fan service.
As well, Dino Frontier is a short but sweet game that is great at introducing players to VR controls in a fun and creative manner. If would be an amazing title to have in your back pocket both for your own enjoyment or if you want to show a friend who is new to VR what it is all about.
Make sure to check back with Twinfinite in a week or so when the official March 2018 list of free PS Plus games is released by Sony.
