Steep

Helping to round off 2016’s video game offerings was Ubisoft’s Steep. Dropping them into an open-world mountain range, Steep allows players to traverse the mountains by skiing, snowboarding, paragliding, and wingsuiting — all while switching between them on the fly. While the game does have a bunch of challenges for you to complete, many players will enjoy recording and editing footage of their stylish descent and sharing it with friends, or simply speeding down the powder-covered slopes alongside them.

Exploring every inch of Steep’s huge mountain ranges can take some time, even when using the game’s fast-travel system. This makes unlocking all of those sweet achievements pretty difficult, especially when one requires you to reach 100% exploration on all regions of the Alps. Combine that with the fact you’ll need to complete all of the mountain stories, get gold medals in all of the challenges, and max out your reputation, and Steep’s achievement list is pretty darn tricky.

A couple of achievements requiring you to get over 2,000 points in a single jump and nailing a 1080 and double backflip will ensure your skills are definitely put to the test. Oh, and when you’re trying to get those Gold medals on the La Fieuse and Fallen Rocks challenges, try not to throw your controller across the room. They’re by far the toughest in the game.

Steep’s full achievement list can be found here.

Furi

Furi is the ultimate challenge for those who think they’re masters of video game combat systems. Adopting the form of a boss gauntlet, players must battle their way through these formidable opponents in a desperate attempt to escape from a brutal prison.  This isn’t just any ordinary combat, though. Furi requires you to master not just your protagonist’s sword, but be able to quickly and accurately navigate arenas to escape the onslaught of bullets heading your way.

Furi has 1000 Gamerscore split across 34 different achievements. While some of the list may seem fairly straightforward, others really ramp up the difficulty. Thought the game was tough enough on the standard difficulty? Try achieving an S rank in Furier difficulty. Thought you got through the game pretty fast? Well, beat Furi’s combat designer’s best speedrun of just under 90 minutes to get an achievement worth 40G.

While it’s certainly a challenging game with an equally tricky achievement list to boot, Furi’s fast-paced action is sure to keep your interest. Just remember, deep breaths! You can check out the full achievement list for Furi here.

Stardew Valley

December finally saw the indie farming simulator, Stardew Valley, make its way to both the Xbox One and PS4. Players could finally get to work on rebuilding their grandfather’s abandoned farming plot and developing it into an agricultural powerhouse once more. In order to be a successful farmer, you’ll have to tend to your crops and livestock, fish in the rivers for extra income, and mine caves to upgrade your tools.

Stardew Valley isn’t just about work, though, with the ability to romance and marry any one of a number of locals, cook recipes, and donate valuable items to the museum. With so much for you to do, getting all 1000 Gamerscore can take quite some time.

If you’re wanting to pick up all of the achievements in the game, then prepare yourself. You’ll need to have accrued 10 million of the game’s currency, completed the museum collection, reached the bottom floor of the mine, caught every fish, shipped every item, collected every Stardrop, and reached a 5-heart friend level with 20 of the locals. Stardew Valley also unfortunately has two achievements tied to one major decision that the player must make in the plot. We won’t disclose the details here, but know that it’s likely you’ll need to do some trickery with your save file in order to grab them both. Or… you know, give yourself to the virtual farming lifestyle and play through the game twice. Either way, you’re going to be busy for quite some time.
