Most expected Kingdom Hearts 3 to wrap up all the loose ends from the games released so far by the time the credits rolled. Things didn’t quite work out that way, and these are the five questions we still have after beating Kingdom Hearts 3.

Who Was the Girl Ansem Experimented On?
A sudden plot point that came out of left field, the unnamed Girl played a surprisingly hefty role in the origin stories of several of the game’s characters.
Taken in by Ansem for experiments on her memories and heart before the events of Birth By Sleep, The Girl befriended Lea and Isa during her captivity.
It was in an attempt to save her that they tried to break into the Hollow Bastion castle, and later became apprentices to Ansem in order to discover a way to help her escape. However, before they could do so, she disappeared and hasn’t been seen since.
The two kept looking for her even after they were turned into Nobodies, but eventually, Lea (now Axel) accepted that she was gone forever, leaving Isa (now Saïx) to search for her himself.
He nearly found a promising lead to her whereabouts after bringing Ansem back from the Realm of Darkness, but he quickly revealed that even he doesn’t recall what became of her.
As such, players reach the end of the game still not knowing who the girl is and what became of her. We’ve done our best to piece together who she is, but even then we still can’t definitively say where she might be now.

Who Was the Traitor Among the Original Apprentices?
Prior to the events of the Keyblade War, the original apprentices of the Master of Masters were each given a role to perform by their leader.
If carried out correctly, each of the apprentice’s roles should have contributed to keeping the world from falling to darkness, thus preserving peace and doing right by their master’s wishes.
However, The Master of Masters also foretold of a traitor who would seek to disrupt his plans and interfere with the roles of the other apprentices. To that end, the apprentices try to deduce who the traitor is before he can bring ruin to the world.
Unfortunately, we never get to see who the traitor was or is. Instead, the last scene we see of the apprentices is them gathering to learn of what Luxu (now Xigbar) accomplished by carrying out his role.
Most believe it’s a story element that will be revealed in Kingdom Hearts Union χ[Cross] or a future installment, but that didn’t make it any less frustrating to reach the end of Kingdom Hearts 3 without a solid answer.

When and Where is Ventus From?
Before the release of Kingdom Hearts Union χ[Cross], most would have safely assumed that Ventus was an apprentice Keyblade wielder under the tutelage of Master Eraqus and former apprentice of Xehanort.
However, thanks to his making an appearance in Union χ[Cross], a game set several years or even decades before the events of the main series, players have been left with several questions surrounding the character and his origins.
Was Ventus brought to the current day from the past? How was that possible? Was Xehanort aware of this, or did he have no idea?
Players waited eagerly to find this out, but by the end, the only real acknowledgment the game gave was him being reunited with his Chirithy in the title’s closing cutscenes.
As such, most have accepted that his origins and how he came to the main games’ world will be answered either in the continuation of Union χ[Cross] or in a new entry entirely.

What’s in the Black Box?
Handed down to Luxu along with the Master of Masters’ Keyblade, the Black Box’s contents are known to no one else except him.
Many have tried to find it and discover its contents, including the Thirteen Darknesses as well as Maleficent and Pete, but by the end of Kingdom Hearts 3, Luxu is still the only one who knows its true purpose and what is contained within it.
Leading up to 3’s release, many were sure its contents would be revealed. After all, the Box has thirteen locks on it, and given Xehanort’s possession of the No Name Keyblade, most thought he would open it to further his own ends.
With that not having occurred though, it’s become a toss up on when fans will get to figure out what is inside the Black Box.
Given that it remains closed after the Keyblade War, it’s likely that it won’t be opened during the events of Union χ[Cross]. That leaves its contents’ reveal to be seen in an entirely new entry, though no one knows when that might see the light of day.

Who Is the Master of Masters?
To put it bluntly, no one has any idea who the Master of Masters could be at this point in time.
Barely even referenced in Kingdom Hearts 3, the person who may or may not be responsible for driving the whole world into chaos remains an enigma. Where he went, what his plans are and especially who he really is all remain a complete mystery.
As such, pretty much any theory presented by fans over the years is still viable.
He could be Xehanort, continuing to scheme and plot his way into controlling the world. He could also be Sora after learning to time travel the way Xehanort did, driven mad by his inability to save his friends from being lost to Xehanort’s plot.
Heck, he could be some random character nobody’s even seen yet, saved for a proper introduction in a later installment.
Whatever his identity may be, it’s certainly not something revealed in Kingdom Hearts 3, and the mystery will continue to drive fans crazy for a good long while yet.
