Every Retro Game Coming to Current Generation Platforms in July 2018

This month, the retro offerings on PS4, Xbox One, and PC are almost identical, save for one exclusive game that the PC is getting.

The most substantial package of retro games coming to modern platforms in July has to be the Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2. Not only does it contain eight classic games from multiple systems such as the SNES, PlayStation, Saturn, and PS2 but also a bunch of extra bonus features, including The Day of Σ prequel video. While the quality of the Mega Man X games is somewhat erratic, there’s certainly enough good games in this collection to make it worth your $40.

Those looking to shoot stuff in the third-person, over-the-shoulder perspective rather than a side-on one can get their fix in Red Faction: Guerilla Re-Mars-tered. This version is the exact same as the original but with some shiny new 4K visuals and other graphical updates. If you already own the original version of the game on Steam, you can bask in the sharpness of close to 4000 horizontal pixels for free.

In Nihon Falcom’s ongoing attempt to get as many Ys games on PC as possible, it is bringing Ys: Memories of Celceta to the platform. Memories of Celceta is a reimagining of the Super Famicom game Ys IV: Mask of the Sun, not to be confused with the PC Engine CD game Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys. Memories of Celceta retcons both previous games that donned the Ys IV titled and is now officially considered the fourth game in the Ys canon. If you don’t care about any of that stuff, just know that Ys: Memories of Celceta is a pretty cool action RPG, and you can now play it on your PC.

Here is a list of all the retro games coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2018:

  • July 3 – Red Faction: Guerilla Re-Mars-tered (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • July 5 – ACA Neo Geo Samurai Shodown V (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • July 5 – ACA Neo Geo The Super Spy (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • July 12 – ACA Neo Geo League Bowling (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • July 24 – Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • July 25 – Ys: Memories of Celceta (PC)

Switch

code of princess, retro

As well as Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 and the three ACA Neo Geo games, a bunch of retro games are coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch.

Firstly, although it’s not really retro considering that the Wii U, 3DS, and Switch are all technically eighth generation systems, I want to give a small mention to Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. This Wii U gem of a puzzle platformer is making its way to the handheld that preceded it (the 3DS) and the home console that succeeded it (the Switch). If you didn’t pick it up for the Wii U, it’s a great game that you should definitely check out on the Switch or 3DS.

In a similar light, while it’s too early to consider it retro, the 3DS game Code of Princess is making the jump from handheld to home console with the Switch release of Code of Princess EX. As well as a graphical overhaul, this beat ’em up remake includes a new local co-op mode.

Last month, Flashback came to the Switch in Europe in the form of Flashback 25th Anniversary Edition. This iconic cinematic platformer will finally be making its way to the US at the tail-end of the month, on July 31. Not only that, but another similarly iconic cinematic platformer, Another World, previously known as Out of This World, will also be heading to the system in July.

Here is a list of all the retro games coming to Switch in 2018:

  • July 5 – ACA Neo Geo Samurai Shodown V
  • July 5 – ACA Neo Geo The Super Spy
  • July 9 – Another World
  • July 12 – ACA Neo Geo League Bowling
  • July 13 – Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Switch, 3DS)
  • July 27 – Go Vacation
  • July 31 – Code of Princess EX
  • July 31 – Flashback
