Dynasty Warriors 9 (Feb. 13)
Best Xbox One Games to Have on Your Radar in February 2018
Dynasty Warriors is a series with a loyal fanbase. Thousands of fans eagerly anticipate each new installment in the series, desperate to unleash intricate combos and powerful hits to defeat enemies, one hundreds at a time. It’s all over-the-top, but it’s fast-paced and great fun, too. Dynasty Warriors 9 continues to keep this fast and frantic gameplay at the core of the experience, but brings the action to an open world setting for the first time.
As such, Dynasty Warriors 9 is an exciting title whether you’ve been interested in the series before or not. If you’ve been looking at getting into the series before, nine’s swathe of new additions could be the fresh lick of paint the franchise needs to appeal to newcomers. And if you’re a hardened Dynasty Warriors fan, well, who doesn’t want another opportunity to deal out some sweet Musou action on the Xbox One?
Kingdom Come: Deliverance (Feb. 13)
Best Xbox One Games to Have on Your Radar in February 2018
If you’re looking for something a little more grounded in realism for your Xbox One in February 2018, then Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s story-driven RPG action might be your cup of tea. Deliverance puts players in the shoes of Henry, the son of a blacksmith whose village is invaded during a civil war. It’s down to you to avenge the death of those killed, and fight back against the invading forces.
What makes Kingdom Come: Deliverance so intriguing is the way that its quests can be solved in multiple ways. How you choose to solve each quest will determine the outcome, ensuring there’s plenty of replayability for those wanting to see every possible scenario the game has to offer.
Owlboy (Feb. 13)
Best Xbox One Games to Have on Your Radar in February 2018
Owlboy truly caught people off-guard when it hit the PC toward the tail end of 2016. It had long been thought that the game would never actually arrive, having taken 10 years to make from start to finish. Owlboy is a story-driven platformer that tasks you with exploring an entirely new world all the while narrowly avoiding (or battling) a ragtag bunch of sky pirates.
Otus (the protagonist) can’t fight off a bunch of pirates alone, though, so you’re able to recruit his friends to help him gun down enemies, or offer other handy abilities or techniques to aid your adventure. Its art-style just oozes with retro charm, and its gameplay arguably stands as one of the finest examples of 2D platforming. The controls may not be perfect, but take the time to get used to them and Owlboy won’t be an experience you forget quickly.
Fe (Feb. 16)
Best Xbox One Games to Have on Your Radar in February 2018
Fe is a charming little title you may not have heard of that’s coming as part of EA’s program for indie developers, EA Originals. Developed by Zoink, Fe has players control an adorable fox-like creature that must push back dark entities known as the Silent Ones. You won’t be alone in this fight, though. Fe can speak with its fellow woodland critter pals in order to learn new songs which allow it to interact with the forest in new ways. For example, you may learn a new song that allows you to use a flower as a jump-pad to reach previously inaccessible areas.
Though details have remained fairly light on Fe, we do know that the game will force players to think about how they need to complete their objective, rather than simply holding the player’s hand and guiding them to the answer. As such, Fe is shaping up to be more of a challenge than its singing wolf protagonist would have you believe. Plus, the artwork looks great, so there’s that, too.
Metal Gear Survive (Feb. 20)
Best Xbox One Games to Have on Your Radar in February 2018
Yes, we know. Metal Gear Survive isn’t a true Metal Gear game, what with Hideo Kojima no longer manning the reigns and the complete change of direction from stealth to zombie survival. But, just because Metal Gear Survive isn’t a Metal Gear game per sé, it’s still a pretty enjoyable co-op experience.
During our time with the beta, we learned a few things. Primarily it was that even though the game has a very tenuous link to the iconic Metal Gear series, the gameplay itself can still be fun. Granted, there’s a lot to take in, with one of the jankiest UIs we’ve had to try and navigate our way through, but when the whole experience is running on the highly impressive Fox Engine, shooting zombies and sprinting around feels just as smooth as it did in MGS V.
Granted, this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s fine. But, if you’re looking for something a little bit different with plenty of co-op replayability and depth, Metal Gear Survive isn’t the absolute worst Xbox One game you could spend your time on this month.
