Call of Duty: WW2 (Nov. 3)
November PS4 Games to Have on Your Radar
Call of Duty is one of the biggest releases of every year, but 2017 marks a special year for the series as we’re returning to its World War 2 roots. Call of Duty: WW2 focuses on a band in the American 1st Infantry Division, as they fight their way through the European theatre of the war. There’s a full fledged dramatic campaign in WW2, as well as the series’ tried and true multiplayer portion. Many of the features fans know are back, but there’s also quite a few changes. Instead of creating a class you’ll get to choose from five different divisions, each of which have their own weapons, basic training, and skills. This is combined with the new Headquarters social space set on Omaha Beach, where up to 48 players can participate in various activities like testing score streaks, 1vs1 battles, and a shooting range. The newest addition to the multiplayer suite is War Mode, which pits two teams against each other in a massive match. One team has to attack a series of strategic objectives, while the other protects them, switching sides after each round.
Of course if the campaign and multiplayer options aren’t enough for you, you’ve also got the return of Nazi Zombies. This uses the same survival mode featured in previous Call of Duty games, but with an original story and characters. Call of Duty: WW2 is looking like a proper return for the World War 2 shooter, and any fan of the genre is going to want to pick it up.
Sonic Forces (Nov. 7)
November PS4 Games to Have on Your Radar
It’s been a good year for Sonic with the release of Sonic Mania just a few months ago, a nostalgic blast that appeals to fans both new and old. Now near the end of the year we’re getting Sonic Forces, a brand new 3D entry in the series that also mixes in some 2D elements. Fans of Sonic Generations will be happy to know that we’ll be seeing both modern Sonic and classic Sonic in action in the game, with a mix of 3D running and 2D platforming.
The real showstealer though is that now fans will have the opportunity to create their very own avatars to fight alongside Sonic and friends. Your avatar comes with the ability to equip weapons called Wispons that include things like whips, grappling hooks, drills, flamethrowers, and more. These additions are sure to change up the Sonic formula, and platformer fans should keep an eye on how this one comes out.
Need For Speed Payback (Nov. 10)
November PS4 Games to Have on Your Radar
Although 2015 saw a reboot of the Need for Speed franchise, Need for Speed Payback doesn’t exactly follow that road map. Instead, there’s a brand new story mode that doesn’t feature live action, following three playable characters who each have their own unique strengths and skills. The three characters band together to take on “The House,” a crime cartel that controls the underworld of Fortune Valley.
Payback gives you a vast open world to race in, with a full day-night cycle and everything. While the series’ core racing mechanics are largely the same, Payback has a big focus on action racing. Your characters will work together to pull off action movie-like sequences. Think Fast and Furious. Racing fans had it good last month with Forza Motorsport 7 and Gran Turismo Sport, but for a little change of pace you should have your eye on Need for Speed Payback.
L.A. Noire (Nov. 14)
November PS4 Games to Have on Your Radar
L.A. Noire, the Team Bondi developed and Rockstar published title, is making a comeback this month on current systems. This noire crime drama follows detective Cole Phelps as he makes his way up the ranks of the LAPD throughout the 1940s and 50s, uncovering darker and more disturbing cases and murders along the way.
The game originally released in 2011 on PS3 and Xbox 360, but this new remaster updates the visuals of the game adding on higher quality textures, better weather effects, and even new camera angles. A big feature in the game focuses on its impressive facial capture, requiring you to read people’s facial expressions and judge whether they’re telling the truth or not. Whether you’re jumping back into the shoes of Cole Phelps or trying it out for the first time, L.A. Noire might be a good remaster to pick up as we head into the holidays.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (Nov. 17)
November PS4 Games to Have on Your Radar
Although the first Star Wars Battlefront was by no means bad, EA has taken a lot of fan feedback for the sequel, Star Wars Battlefront 2. The title takes us back to a galaxy far, far away with more options and content than the first time around. Most notably, the game features a full-fledged single player story that takes place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. You play as Iden Versio, a member of the Imperial Inferno Squad, as they try to bring the Rebel Alliance down in the wake of the Emperor’s death. Of course, the game’s main offering still lies in its multiplayer modes.
Most of the modes from the first game return, along with the addition of a massive new mode known as Galactic Assault. This 40-player mode is similar to Battlefield, pitting an attacking team against a defending one, with a diverse set of strategic objectives. A few key changes should help improve the experience, like choosing from character classes and earning points to play as heroes instead of finding them as random drops on the battlefield. Star Wars Battlefront 2 brings together heroes like Kylo Ren and Darth Maul from across series’ eras, as well as plenty of new and familiar locations. While you wait for The Last Jedi, you can scratch that Star Wars itch with Battlefront 2.
The Sims 4 (Nov. 17)
November PS4 Games to Have on Your Radar
The Sims has seen a number of entries on console, but after three years console fans will finally be able to get their hands on The Sims 4. This console version is pretty much exactly like its PC counterpart, but with a reworked UI to fit consoles better. You can create your own Sim family, explore the neighborhood, send them to a job, get married, and so much more.
The good news is that all DLC released for The Sims 4 will eventually be making its way to the console version. At the game’s launch on Nov. 17, three different content packs will also be available with the City Living, Vampires, and Vintage Glamour Stuff DLC. This means if you run out of things to do in the base game, there’s plenty more content coming down the line. Watching your Sim family live life to the fullest is just the thing you need for those cold winter days.
The Inpatient (PSVR) (Nov. 21)
November PS4 Games to Have on Your Radar
Until Dawn fans should definitely take note of The Inpatient coming to PSVR this month. The game actually functions as a prequel to Until Dawn, taking place in the Blackwood Sanatorium 60 years before the events of the previous game. The survival horror title casts you as an amnesiac patient checked into Blackwood, who’s intent on recovering their memories.
The Inpatient certainly looks creepy, and Supermassive has used tricks like recording binaural audio to up the horror elements even more. Just like Until Dawn, choice will play a big part in the game, and the story will play out differently depending on what you choose to do. You’ll need a PSVR headset to play the game, but if you have one and want to return to the world of Until Dawn, definitely give this one a shot.
Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV (Nov. 21)
November PS4 Games to Have on Your Radar
Final Fantasy XV has seen a wealth of content updates since its release last year, and soon we’ll finally get our hands on the VR project the team has been working on. Monster of the Deep is all about the fishing of Final Fantasy XV, casting you (pun intended) as a rookie fisherman exploring the waters of Eos. The game actually takes place early on in the story of XV and, of course, you’ll run into Noctis and crew. While the fishing mechanics remain mostly the same, although transferred into VR, you’ll also get the chance to hang out with the party, joining them in their camp for dinner.
If you don’t care much for fishing Monster of the Deep might be a tough sell, but if a bass fishing game with a bit of a fantasy twist sounds up your alley, here you go.
