May 2017 is the last wall before the dreaded summer drought, a time when major video game releases slow to a relative crawl as companies prepare for conferences and the holiday season. To help fans secure their libraries against the upcoming, slow feed, Sony’s home console is getting a lot of games this month full of tons of different options.

Kicking off the month is an atmospheric, first-person shooter from Bethesda and Arkane. Prey will have players explore and fight to survive Talos-I after a powerful alien race known as the Typhon wreak havoc across the space station.

Week one’s offerings:

  • May 5 – Prey

Birthdays the Beginning

The second week of the month is a bit light, but it offers a few very different indie experiences. Birthdays the Beginning comes to us from the creator of Harvest Moon. Instead of farms and community life, this time around you’ll be crafting planets and creating life. Your decisions and how you mold each world will affect what types of life can bloom and how things will develop. Strafe is not a simulation at all, but a heavily retro-inspired first person shooter that will swaddle you in nostalgic goodness. Meanwhile, LocoRoco Remastered brings the puzzling fun of the old PSP title to the PS4.

Here’s week two’s release schedule:

  • May 9 – Birthdays: The Beginning
  • May 9 – LocoRoco Remastered
  • May 9 – Strafe

Injustice 2, the long awaited sequel to the superhero fighting game from the creators of Mortal Kombat finally hits consoles this week, allowing fans to jump into the hard-hitting action. The Surge is a Souls-like game that doesn’t look like it at first glance. There’s no magic or deadly knights, instead, you use technology and exoskeletons to explore and take out powerful foes. For those who invested in a PSVR headset, Farpoint is the first major release for the platform in quite a long time.

Check out everything you can play on your console this week:

  • May 16 – Farpoint (PSVR)
  • May 16 – Injustice 2
  • May 16 – The Surge
  • May 19 – Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island

(Home Stretch)

Rime sandy

The home stretch of the month has a heap of games ranging from fighters to multiplayer survival horror, to beautiful adventures. There’s even a bit of love for the Vita and PSVR headset with some of these titles. Will you team up with friends to escape a vicious murderer, or perhaps hunt down a group of counselors yourself? Maybe you’ll explore a beautiful world where sound and music seem to be key to unlocking its secrets? You can forgo both of those and just immerse yourself in the world of Star Trek (if you have a PSVR, that is). The choice is yours.

The month’s final offerings:

  • May 23 – Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception (PS4, Vita)
  • May 26 – Friday the 13th (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • May 26 – Get Even (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • May 26 – Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3)
  • May 26 – Rime (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • May 30 – Don’t Starve Mega Pack (PS4, Xbox One)
  • May 30 – Star Trek: Bridge Crew (Vive, Rift, PSVR)
  • May 30 – Perception
