(Week One: Oct. 1-7)

forza motorsport 7, xbox one

October brings us fully into the fall gaming season, leading us into what will become a jam-packed holiday season as everyone fights to get their hands on some of the biggest games of the year. With the summer firmly behind us, there are some major titles releasing across all platforms in the coming weeks, some even going head-to-head to see who comes out on top. However, the first week is relatively light when compared to what the second half of the month has in store for gamers.

Headlining the first week is easily Forza Motorsport 7, Microsoft’s premier racing franchise which is also due to take full advantage of the Xbox One X when that releases in the first week of November.  There’s also the re-release of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen on current generation consoles, letting players get in on some must-play action.

Week one’s releases:

  • Oct. 3 – Battle Chasers: Nightwar (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • Oct. 3 – Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS4, Xbox One)
  • Oct. 3 – Forza Motorsport 7 (Xbox One, PC)
  • Oct. 5 – Raiden V: Director’s Cut (PS4)
  • Oct 5 – A Hat in Time (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

(Week Two: Oct. 8-14)

Week two is equally light on the number of releases, which is good since there are some good titles to jump into on the PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is the highly-anticipated follow-up to one of 2014’s best games. Talion returns with all of his deadly combos and the ability to make even more use of the Orc armies he’s fighting against. A deeper nemesis system, base-building, and a much more densely packed world await players looking to revisit the world of the Lord of the Rings.

The Evil Within 2 fittingly launches on Friday the 13th, bringing survival horror to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you were a fan of the first game, Tango Gameworks has dialed up the insanity of this mind-bending horror experience. Oh, and Switch owners aren’t left out of the game releases, with Fire Emblem Warriors launching this week as well. It combines the non-stop hack n’ slash action of the Warriors games with elements of the critically-acclaimed tactical RPG series.

Check out this week’s schedule:

  • Oct. 10 – Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses (PS4)
  • Oct. 10 – Middle-Earth: Shadow of War (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • Oct. 10 – Raid: World War II (PS4)
  • Oct. 10 – Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle (PS4, Vita)
  • Oct. 13 – The Evil Within 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

The home stretch of October 2017 is the battle of the juggernauts. Leading the week off is Destiny 2 on PC (you can check out our PS4 review here), adding some PC-specific improvements such as unlocked framerates and true 4K.
