Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition (Xbox Games With Gold)

One of the free games you can get in the month of December, and I highly recommend you get this one if you can, is Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition. Developed by United Front Games and published by Square Enix, Sleeping Dogs puts you in the shoes of Hong Kong undercover cop Wei Shen. He’s tasked with spying on the local triad gangs, gaining their trust, and taking them down from the inside.

The bustling city of Hong Kong is fantastically realized in Sleeping Dogs, from the street hawkers in the night markets to the seedy alleys and neon light signs on the sides of the roads. Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition also comes packed with the previously DLC missions, so you’ll be getting a lot of play time out of this one.

Outlast (Xbox Games With Gold)

scariest, moment, games

Outlast has us explore a creepy asylum as investigative journalist Miles Upshur. Armed with only a video recorder, players will have to make their way through the asylum and uncover the terrifying horrors that lie within. You don’t have any weapons in this game, so if you do happen to encounter hostile patients (and you will), you’ll have to either run for your life, or hide and pray they don’t find you.

Outlast is plenty scary with its great use of atmospheric tension and the need to rely on your recorder’s night vision mode when it gets too dark, but it also plays host to a pretty decent horror story that will keep you engaged from start to finish. Outlast is one of the free games you can get with Xbox Live’s Games With Gold this December.

Outland (Xbox Games With Gold)

outland

Outland is a really gorgeous 2D platformer that has the player character wield the powers of light and dark to fight off the forces of chaos. The story sounds a little generic, sure, but the art design and visual style of the game is so striking, it’s hard not to stare. If you’re into platforming and some light puzzle-solving, you can’t really go wrong with Outland.

Outland is one of the free games you can get with Xbox Live’s Games With Gold this month.

Burnout Paradise (Xbox Games With Gold)

burnout-paradise

Burnout Paradise puts players in an open world to drive around and… that’s it. You’re free to go wild, and find new and innovative ways of crashing and wrecking your vehicle. The world is full of challenges for you to attempt, and it’s pretty much a haven for car lovers who enjoy this style of vehicular gameplay and the old-fashioned practice of racking up as many points as possible.

There’s also a multiplayer segment where you and your friends can attempt events and challenges together. Burnout Paradise is available on Xbox Live’s Games With Gold this month.

Stories: The Path of Destinies (PS Plus)

If you’re into RPGs, consider picking up Stories: The Path of Destinies this month. This action RPG boasts a beautiful, watercolor-styled aesthetic, and you take control of Reynardo, an ex-pirate who somehow finds himself tasked with saving the world, because that’s just how RPGs roll. There’s a lot of swordplay to enjoy here, and players will also get to make choices and explore different story paths in order to get to the game’s ending.

Stories: The Path of Destinies is one of the free games available to PS Plus subscribers this December.

Invisible, Inc (PS Plus)

invisible-inc

Invisible, Inc is a stealth, turn-based strategy game from Klei Entertainment, so you know you can expect a charming art style from this one. The game has you explore randomly generated worlds as you build up your characters and infiltrate bases. Not only that, the game also features lovely cutscenes that are fully voiced.

Invisible, Inc is one of the free games PS Plus subscribers can pick up this month.

Hyper Void (PS Plus)

hyper-void

Hyper Void is a 3D shooter game where you take control of a spaceship and blast enemies. You can only move sideways, and you’ll have to shoot down your foes before they get close enough to damage you. There are many different enemy types available in the game, and you’ll see them all as you progress through the multitude of levels it has to offer.

Hyper Void is one of the free games PS Plus subscribers can pick up this December.

Tiny Troopers: Joint Ops (PS Plus)

tiny-troopers

Tiny Troopers is a top-down, isometric shooter where you control cute-looking characters and pick up items around the world. You’ll spend time shooting down enemies, picking up special weapons, and collecting new items for your own usage. There’s not much here in the storytelling department, but it could be a good distraction if you just need to unwind and shoot a few video game enemies.

Tiny Troopers: Joint Ops is one of the free games available to PS Plus subscribers this month.

Color Guardians (PS Plus)

After the world of Terra Color gets turned into a sad, black and white hellhole, it’s up to you to restore and bring some color back to the place. Color Guardians is a side-scroller game where you must think on your feet, avoid obstacles, and swap out colors in order to get to the end. There are over 70 levels to challenge here, and they’ll get increasingly harder as you progress.

Color Guardians is one of the free games available to PS Plus subscribers this month.

VVVVVV (PS Plus)

vvvvvv

Last, but not least, we have VVVVVV, where you play as Captain Viridian on a task to rescue his friends and bring peace to the universe. It’s a pretty interesting platformer game where you get to play around with the rules of gravity. There are no power-ups and locks in the levels, so you won’t have to worry about having to pick up in-game items in order to clear certain areas. It’s all left to skill.

VVVVVV is one of the free games available to PS Plus subscribers this month.
