Here Are 5 PS4 Exclusives Yoshida Might Be Hinting At

In a recent interview, Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for Sony Interactive Entertainment, said that there are still unannounced exclusives in development for the PS4. This may come as a surprise to some, after the recent comments from the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, John Kodera, in which he proclaiming that the PS4 is entering the final phase of its life cycle. However, in light of Yoshida divulging that there are still PS4 exclusives that have yet to be unveiled, here are five potential titles we could see making their way onto the PS4 before this console generation ends.

Bloodborne 2

This may be the most anticipated sequel to any potential title that Sony could announce as one of these unannounced PS4 exclusives. Bloodborne was a hit with both souls fans and the PS4 community in general. Released back in March 2015, the gothic stylized, souls-like action RPG was both commercially successful and critically acclaimed. Bloodborne reached nearly 3 million copies sold as of April 2018. With this success, it should come as no surprise that some fans are hoping for the reveal of a Bloodborne 2.

Fuel was added to the rumor fires when a teaser for a FromSoftware game made its world premiere during the 2017 Game Awards. Unfortunately for fans expecting a Bloodborne 2 announcement at Sony’s E3 2018 press conference, the short trailer actually ended up being for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Fans looking for some sort of hope of a sequel can look back to an interview where the director of Bloodborne, Hidetaka Miyazaki, said that FromSoftware was working on three games, one being a title that “will probably comply with the expectations from the fans in straightforward manner.” The title that’s said to “comply with the expectations from the fans” could be Bloodborne 2. The next best time it may make its debut could be at PSX 2018. Since there was no unveil at E3, and considering the popularity of the original, it is more of a question of when will it be announced, rather than if it will be.

Horizon Zero Dawn Sequel

Another potential unannounced title could be from Guerrilla Games. Departing from the Killzone series that they started back in 2004, Guerrilla released Horizon Zero Dawn in February 2017. The stunning open-world action RPG was a tremendous success. Like Bloodborne, it was received well both critically and commercially. After one year, Horizon has sold over 7.6 million copies. If it weren’t for Breath of the Wild coming out just days after its launch, Aloy’s adventure would’ve almost certainly been many players’ front runner for game of the year. Unfortunately for Horizon, Breath of the Wild was one of those once in a generation kind of games that everything struggled to compete with.

Without going into spoilers of how Zero Dawn ends, it is left with the potential to continue the story. A sequel may be a slightly further down the pipeline though, as Guerrilla released a fair amount of content in the Frozen Wilds DLC just this last November. Some point to a possible sequel to Horizon from reading into job listings found on Guerrilla Games’ website back in May. It also makes sense that Guerilla would want to capitalize on the success of the first game by releasing a sequel quickly. Either way, Aloy seems to have secured her place as one of the new faces of PlayStation for years to come.

Gran Turismo 7

Another Gran Turismo game could also sneak its way onto this console generation before all is said and done. Polyphony Digital’s CEO, Kazunori Yamauchi, confirmed in an interview that they have been working on the next chapter in the Gran Tourismo series. Additionally, a picture even surfaced on Reddit showing a box with Gran Turismo 7 on the cover. Even though Gran Turismo Sport released just a few months ago, this suggests that a numbered iteration of the racing sim is closer than some may believe.

Until Dawn 2

Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn made its debut in August 2015 and was well recieved, providing great player choice in how they wanted their story to unfold. It reminded many players of a Friday the 13th-esque kind of experience, not taking itself all too seriously, but still having a cohesive story and consequences to the choices made by the player. People have speculated on whether or not Supermassive would take on a sequel to the series after releasing a prequel, The Inpatient, as a PSVR exclusive. An interview back in 2016 might dampen those hopes, as they said they weren’t currently working on a sequel and wanted to get onto more platforms outside of the PS4. However, due to the popularity of the original, that stance could easily have changed over the past two years. Also, with the recent success of other player-choice games, like Detroit: Become Human, Supermassive could grant the Until Dawn fans their wish with a sequel on the PS4.

The Order: 1886 2

The PlayStation community got the release of The Order 1886, developed by Ready at Dawn, in February 2015. It was faced with mixed reviews, but gained a cult following. The small yet passionate fanbase have wondered whether they’d get a continuation of the story by Ready at Dawn or whether it would be their only look into this alternate history of London. Fans of the game have looked at recent job listings from the developer showing that they are working on a brand new IP, but also that there are multiple titles in development. The Order 1886 followers can only hope that one of these multiple titles is a possible sequel to the franchise.
