Major Game Anniversaries in December 2018 to Make You Feel Old
Doom – 25th Anniversary
This month, Dec. 10 to be specific, marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the original Doom. id Software’s game is one of the most influential video games of all time, with its design philosophies still being used in the games of today.
It not only pioneered the first-person shooter genre, leading to the likes of Call of Duty and Halo that have led the industry for more than a decade, but its use of 3D graphics and multiplayer integration were also extremely important.
It was more advanced than pretty much any other PC game at the time, and was a lot of fun to boot. The visuals, level design, and gameplay were easy to understand but clearly better than anything else.
Since then, we’ve seen loads of other iterations of Doom, culminating in its resurgence in 2016 with the reboot and the subsequent VR game. With Doom: Eternal on the horizon, it’s far from the end of the series.
