How to Get Bag of Holding in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

Bag of tricks.

Given Baldur’s Gate 3 is inspired by tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, it makes sense that players want to know if they can get their mitts on the Tardis-like Bag of Holding. After all, it’s a real drag when you get over-encumbered in the middle of an epic adventure.

So, for those curious as to how to get a Bag of Holding in Baldur’s Gate 3, here’s everything you need to know.

Can You Obtain a Bag of Holding in BG3?

Right now, the vanilla version of Baldur’s Gate 3 does not feature a Bag of Holding. Well, not in the traditional sense, anyway. Thankfully, there are a couple of ways of fixing this as you can find an item that functions in a very similar way to the Bag of Holding, and it’s called the Chest of the Mundane.

In addition, there’s also a mod that brings a BG3 Bag of Holding into reality, though you’ll need to know how to use mods to take advantage of this. We’ll outline how to acquire both down below.

What Is the Chest of the Mundane?

The Chest of the Mundane is basically a magical container that does the same thing as a Bag of Holding. See, when you place an item into it, the chest changes it into something much smaller and lighter like a piece of cutlery. This also changes the item’s weight and allows you to carry heavy items with much less effort.

Said items aren’t changed permanently either. Once you remove the loot from the chest again, it reverts back to its true form.

In short, it’s an effective way for you to carry heavy items and not get over-encumbered, which makes it a must-have item for anyone who picks up everything they see. Just make sure you have Karlach or another high Strength character lug the chest around for maximum utility. It’s heavy in its own right, so it defeats the purpose to have a low strength character try to schlep it around.

The Chest of Mundane can be found at the entrance of the Arcane Tower, which is located in the southwest section of the Underdark and just south of the Underdark Beach. Head inside the tower through the entrance on the east wall, and make your way to the balcony and you’ll automatically trigger an Arcane check, which will reveal the chest.

Inside the chest, you’ll find Mystra’s Grace, a pair of magical boots imbued with the Transmutation spell Feather Fall. The wearer can cast the Feather Fall spell as a bonus action, which makes the wearer and nearby party members immune to fall damage.

How to Get the Bag of Holding Mod in BG3

On the other hand, if you’re a hardened D&D veteran who needs the real deal and you prefer to play the game on PC, then you can download a mod which introduces the Tardis-like receptacle into the game.

Indeed, once you install this mod from Chance Santana-Wees to get a functional Bag of Holding, BG3 becomes that much closer to a true D&D experience. If you don’t know how to add mods into your game, here’s a video that outlines the process to make things easier for you.

Of course, it’s important to note that you can only use mods in the PC version of BG3. Console versions of the game do not support mods, so the Chest of the Mundane is the only option for BG3 PS5 and Xbox players.

And with that, we conclude our guide on how to get a Bag of Holding in Baldur’s Gate 3. For more, here’s whether you can become a vampire and how to lift the Shadow Curse.
