How to Get into the Mines in Hokko Life

The Hokko Life tutorial doesn't tell you how to get into the mines, so you have to find it on your own. This guide tells you where to find the entrance to the mines and how to get in.

Where are the mines in Hokko Life, and how do you get in? You need lots of rocks and metals like bronze, copper, and silver to craft high-end items in Hokko Life. For example, to complete your neighbor’s request to fix a broken chair, you’ll need to make steel from iron ore and coal. Unfortunately, nobody tells you where to find rocks and metals in Hokko Life – you have to find the mines and find a way in yourself.

Finding the Pickaxe in Hokko Life

Before you can collect rocks and metal ores, you’ll need a pickaxe. Once you’ve unlocked the raised area of the Meadow, travel through the archway and up the stairs. At the first intersection, continue forward. Go right past the barricaded path, then forward and up the hill at the crossroads. Finally, head up the stairs, and you’ll see the entrance to the mines.

Rocks block the entrance, but there’s a broken pickaxe on the ground. Pick it up and take it to Sally to ask her to fix it. She tells you she’ll have it ready the next day. Return the following day and talk to Sally again to get the fixed pickaxe.

Opening the Mines

With the repaired pickaxe in hand, travel back up to the mines where you found it. Equip the pickaxe from your backpack or equipment carousel and use it to smash the rocks in front of the entrance to the mines.

Enter the mines and head to the right. Smash the square-shaped rock blocking the path and travel deeper into the mines. A message will appear telling you that it’s too dark and you won’t be able to go any further. Exit the mine.

Sally will meet you at the mine entrance and ask you how it was. Tell her it was dark, and she’ll ask you to follow her so she can give you something to help. Back at the workshop, she gives you the design for a mining lantern.

Go to the crafting table with at least 3 coal, 2 stone, and 2 wooden logs and select the mining lantern to craft it.

Return to the mine with several mining lanterns and travel as deep as you can.

When it gets too dark, and you have to stop, open your backpack, select a lantern, and place it.

Continue placing lanterns and traveling deeper into the mine until you run out. Smash rocks along the way to collect stone, coal, and ores. When you run out of lanterns, exit the mine. Craft more lanterns and return later.

To reach level 3 of the mines, you’ll need to craft a bronze pickaxe, which you can earn the design for as a Mayor Merits reward after smashing 35 rocks, crafting 35 objects, and visiting level 2 of the mine. Lower levels of the mines require even stronger tools to get into, which you’ll be able to craft as the game progresses.

And that’s all you need to know to get into the mines in Hokko Life. Before you go, be sure to check out our other Hokko Life guides, including How to Chop and Plant Trees in Hokko Life.
