Did Daemon Abandon His Daughters in House of the Dragon? Answered

A guide that explains if Daemon abandoned his children in Pentos in House of the Dragon.

At the end of episode 6 of House of the Dragon, an entire decade has passed. Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velaryon are on the cusp of welcoming their third child into the world. Sadly, Laena is unable to give birth and, befitting of a dragonrider, has Vhagar kill her with dragon fire. By the end of episode 6, we witness Daemon’s children visibly upset as Daemon walks away, insinuating that he told them the unfortunate news. With Laena dead, did Daemon abandon his daughters in House of the Dragon?

Did Daemon Abandon His Daughters in House of the Dragon?

No, it does not appear that Daemon abandons his daughters in House of the Dragon. While the end of episode 6 showed Daemon Targaryen seemingly leaving his daughters behind, the sneak peak that comes after reveals their whereabouts.

One scene in particular has one of his daughters waking one of Rhaenyra’s sons, exclaiming that someone has taken Vhagar—the same dragon that Laena commanded to kill her with dragon fire.

Furthermore, George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the source material House of the Dragon is based on, states that Daemon Targaryen did in fact return to Westeros with his children, and more. We’ll avoid spoilers for now, but episode 7 of House of the Dragon is shaping up to be an interesting one for sure.

So, no, Daemon did not abandon his daughters in House of the Dragon. Daemon may be arrogant and irritating, but he hasn’t been shown to be a terrible father.
