Splatoon 3 Weapon Freshness Explained: How It Works & What It Does

At its core, Splatoon 3‘s Weapon Freshness is a point-based system to showcase a player’s skill ranking with a specific weapon. Each weapon offers its own unique Freshness rating, and players increase that by filling turf within the Turf War and Anarchy Battles modes. As you cover more turf, the Freshness bar increases, and unlike in Splatoon 2, players are awarded a star each time they fill the bar.

Earning five stars maximizes a weapon’s Freshness, with the necessary amount of points scaling depending on what level you’re at. The scale of required points reads as follows:

  • One star: 10,000 points
  • Two stars: 25,000 points
  • Three stars: 60,000 points
  • Four stars: 160,000 points
  • Five stars: 1,160,000 points

Every time you level up, you will also receive some kind of reward. The rewards are as follows:

  • One star: A Sheldon License, which can be exchanged at the Ammo Knights store for a new weapon.
  • Two stars: A normal sticker of the weapon, which can be used to decorate your locker.
  • Three stars: A reflective sticker of the weapon, which can be used to decorate your locker.
  • Four stars: A badge of the weapon, which can be displayed on your Splashtag.
  • Five stars: A golden badge of the weapon, which can be displayed on your Splashtag.

A second type of freshness does appear with a player’s weapons in the game. When in the lobby in a Turf War, a bar, flag and title are displayed along with an icon of the specific weapon being used. This level of freshness is based on a player’s performance with the weapon in Turf War, and its movement is affected by wins and losses within the mode.

That’s all we’ve got on Splatoon 3’s weapon freshness, how it works and what it does. Twinfinite’s got plenty more Splatoon 3 content for you, including a guide on how to use Amiibo in the game.
