How to Get Touch of Malice Exotic Scout Rifle & Catalyst in Destiny 2

Here's how to get the Exotic Touch of Malice scout rifle, and its associated catalyst. Unfortunately though - it is a random drop.

It’s that time of year again, whereas a new raid is launched in Destiny 2. By the time this article is out, the World’s First Race for the King’s Fall raid and thus contest mode will have concluded. As is the case with every raid thus far (including the similar reprised version of Vault of Glass last year), a bunch of new stuff has been unlocked for the entire Destiny community. Most relevant here, however, is the release of the Touch of Malice Exotic scout rifle. A gun that is just as synonymous as the iconic Taken King raid itself. Unfortunately – the gun is a random RNG drop, so it’s all up to mathematical chance. So, here is how to get the Touch of Malice in Destiny 2.

King's Fall Raid Launch Screen

  1. Assemble your crew.

First things first, you need to find a fireteam of six guardians. Whether it be through the official Destiny app, Discord, social media platform of your choosing, whatever. Usually the Destiny community is very good about helping out those in need, especially regarding raiding. Go to orbit and await your fireteam.

  2. Launch the King’s Fall Raid.

Open the director, go to destinations tab, and click Legends (in top right corner). Click the King’s Fall Raid and launch.

  3. Run entire raid and claim the final chest.

Upon finishing the raid, a final chest will appear. If you are lucky enough, there will be a golden engram on the ground holding the Touch of Malice Exotic scout rifle.

Aside from the actual acquisition of the Touch of Malice itself, the perks within Destiny 2 have also been switched up. The main perk is still the same: kills regenerate the final magazine as well as increase additional damage, but at the expense of lowering the Guardian’s health. But, this time the health can be restored by rapidly defeating three targets. Furthermore, it is equipped with the “Charged With Blight” trait which aside from draining their own life charges up an actual Blight projectile. This then can be fired at combatants shrouding them in darkness and temporarily blinding them.

As is often the case with many Exotics, the Touch of Malice does indeed have a catalyst, and grants the Rapid Hit perk to the gun. However, as was the case with Vex Mythoclast, the catalyst itself is not a random drop plus unlocking it requires both coordination and teamwork. So, let’s talk about how to get the catalyst for the TowwM, which has to do with a rather silly easter egg from Destiny 1.

How to Get the Touch of Malice Catalyst

  • Step 1: Launch the King’s Fall raid (preferably with other Touch of Malice owners). After spawning into the Dreadnaught, head forward past the Hall of Souls encounter to where the portal spawns after finishing the encounter. Take note of the orb at the top of the stairs. This is the first of three areas where players will have to simultaneously dunk orbs.
  • Step 2: To the left of where the Totems encounter would start, a plate will light up if a player with the Touch of Malice stands on it. Designate a player to be your would-be plate stander and have them do so. Meanwhile, have four of the other players on your fire team locate their respective orbs around that area (locations may vary, but they look like the image below).

  • This is crucial because once picked up, you are on a timer and if not handled in time – you’ll have to redo it. Upon counting down, grab the orb and head to the orb at the top of the stairs dunking it time-wise as close to the others as possible.
  • Step 3: Continue the raid until you reach the maze leading to the Gorgoroth encounter. It’s very hard to miss. After finding the hidden chest in that area (pictured below), there is yet another plate around the corner that houses yet another plate to be stood upon.

  • Have the four players locate their orbs again. Then, once ready grab them and come to the plate, counting down and dunking simultaneously.
  • Step 4: The final plate is near the end of the infamous Plunger jumping puzzle. Step on it again. track down your orbs, count down, and dunk again. If done correctly, a message will show up: “Oryx beckons you to his court.” Once the nearby door will open up, enter the dark room.
  • Step 5: Once inside the would-be “Court,” have one of the people who has the Touch of Malice step on the plate and it’s Basketball time! you look around, you can see a makeshift basketball hoop and two columns of runes next to it. Nearby, you will also see a cannon of sorts that will launch players into the air, whereas they will similarly dunk orbs until all the relics have been filled up. Boom, done!

That’s how you get Touch of Malice, and its associated catalyst. In terms of completing it, you will need 700 kills. So therefore, your best bet is probably hopping into the Grasp of Avarice dungeon (included in the 30th Anniversary Pack) or the infamous Shuro-Chi checkpoint in the Last Wish raid. Regardless, be sure to check out our other Destiny-related guides, whether it’s beating the Kings Fall raid or grabbing the limited-time Fortnite crossover cosmetics.
