Does Gohan Get A New Form In Super Dragon Ball Heroes?

Gohan does get a new form in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and is officially great again! Much of DBS: Super Hero focuses on Piccolo lamenting over Gohan being unable to realize his potential as a fighter. When Gohan’s Daughter Pan is kidnapped by the Red Ribbon Army, Piccolo sees this as the push that Gohan needs to regain his old power.

Gohan is still a capable fighter and can hold off Gamma 1 in a fight but is only able to turn the tides and regain his ultimate form when he hears Pan in danger. Gohan’s power has always been linked to his emotions and rage as shown in Dragon Ball Z and DBS: Super Hero applies the same logic.

Following a pep talk from Piccolo in the final battle against Cell Max, Gohan attempts to power up to his limit while Piccolo is brutally beaten down by Cell Max. It’s only when Piccolo is seemingly killed in a barrage of blasts from Cell Max that Gohan erupts in anger and achieves a new form.

What Is Gohan Beast?

The official name of Gohan’s new form is Gohan Beast and is designed by series creator, Akira Toriyama. The color scheme of white hair and red eyes is actually based on Toriyama’s original design for the Super Saiyan transformation. According to Toriyama, the name of the transformation comes from the awakening of the wild beast that has been present inside Gohan since the earliest days of Dragon Ball Z.

Gohan’s newest and most powerful transformation was previously teased in the Dragon Ball Super anime when Gohan vowed during a sparring match against Goku to unlock a new form no one had seen before. DBS: Super Hero delivers on that promise and provides a shot-for-shot tribute to Gohan’s iconic transformation to Super Saiyan 2 in the Cell Saga. Gohan’s upturned hair and purple gi in his design are also little nods to that quintessential moment in Dragon Ball history.

Toriyama has stated that Gohan is the strongest Z Fighter following Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. They say as much in the movie and Gohan is quickly able to demonstrate his new power by dismantling Cell Max and putting the monster down with a well-placed Special Beam Cannon.

We’ll need to see how Gohan’s new form holds up when the Dragon Ball Super anime reportedly returns in 2023. The call to make Gohan great again has been answered, let’s hope it stays that way.
