Diablo 2 Resurrected: How to Identify Items & Weapons

Diablo 2 Resurrected is a re-release of the classic ARPG from 2000, and it’s received a huge graphical overhaul for PC and modern consoles. Underneath that shiny new coat of paint, however, is pretty much the exact same game veterans will remember from two decades ago. The core gameplay mechanics and systems are intact here, but if you’re new to the game, we’re here to help you out. Here’s how to identify items and weapons in Diablo 2 Resurrected.

Identifying Items and Weapons in Diablo 2 Resurrected

As you explore the world of Diablo 2 Resurrected and fight your way through the minions of hell, you’ll inevitably get bombarded with tons of loot drops. Some of those items, though, cannot be used until they’ve been identified.

When you hover over the item in your inventory, you’ll see that it’s been marked as unidentified, and will pretty much be useless until you sell it or identify it. To do this, you’ll need an item called the Scroll of Identify. These can be obtained by killing enemies or looting chests; they’re a fairly common drop, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting them as you keep playing naturally.

Once you have one in your inventory, press and hold the X or A button to use it, then click on the item or weapon that you want to identify. This will reveal the item’s full name, stats, and skills, and you’ll also be able to use or equip it, assuming you already have the required stats for it.

About midway through Act I, you’ll be tasked with rescuing Deckard Cain from Tristam, and he’ll hang around in the Rogue Encampment after that. If you have any unidentified items in your inventory, you can talk to him and he’ll identify everything for you for free.

One more thing to note about unidentified items is that their sell values will always increase once they’ve been identified. Even if you pick up an item or weapon that you can’t use with your current class, it might be worth your time to identify it first before selling it off.

That’s all you need to know about how to identify items and weapons in Diablo 2 Resurrected. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
