When you go out on missions, you’ll automatically be sent to the location by simply starting the mission. The same can not be said for returning. In order to return to your base at the end of the mission, you must use the Portal Generator.

To get the Portal Generator out, open your inventory menu by pressing Y or Triangle or by using the shortcut menu with the d-pad and selecting the Portal Generator. Press A or X to equip it, and then hold down LT to activate it and a cutscene appears sending you to the base.
