How to Get Hylian Shield in The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD

If you’re hoping to get the Hylian Shield early in the game or very easily, you’re out of luck. This indestructible shield is a late-game item, and it requires a great deal of skill and patience to get it.

You’ll have the opportunity to win the Hylian Shield late in the game after you’ve helped the Thunder Dragon in the Lanayru Gorge as part of the main story. After doing so, the Thunder Dragon offers an optional mini-game called the Lightning Round.

In this Lightning Round, the objective is to complete all 11 boss battles (12 if you are playing in Hero Mode) consecutively without the use of any healing items. It’s basically a boss rush mode.

For each boss battle won, you will get a reward, usually rupees or a treasure. After four consecutive battles won, you get a Piece of Heart.

The best prize is the Hylian Shield. Luckily, you don’t have to win all 11 or 12 battles to earn this prize. The Hylian Shield will be awarded to you after the eighth consecutive battle is won.

Luckily, you get to choose the first battle. This means you can pick a boss that you have an easy time with if you’d like to. We recommend picking one that you know you won’t lose a lot of health during. It’s not just about winning, but you must also maintain your health since you cannot heal in between.

After beating eight consecutive bosses, be sure to quit the trial. If you quit after eight rounds, the Hylian Shield will be yours.
